Yes yes I know that we only have power over our own mind not outside events, but I was always more of an Epicurean than a Stoic Marcus still rocks but he can be a bit lecture-ey at times…..
Age 60 to 65 happened when these “old farts” were in their 40s. Like I said before, there is no way that many people are flying above 65. Not sure what the odds are every year when you walk into get a first class medical, but they’ve gotta go down significantly when you’re older. Not to mention when I am in my 60s I am not gonna be too fired up about waking up at 4am and going to sleep at 2am. There’s no way many pilots are flying in that 65/67 age group.

I’m not for age 67 and I did my ALPA call to action. I just think it’s unrealistic to think that this will have a significant impact on the industry. How many people on here complaining have done the call to action? Better be 100% if you’ve got the time to get on this site and complain.

I have to imagine the same conversations were being had when they raised it to 65.

It was also 2007, reeling from bankruptcies, lost pensions, very down market, etc. Many flat couldn't afford to retire at 60 anymore. I think this time it's quite a bit different.

Don’t kid yourself. We are a greedy group (all pilots, not just ours). Most pilots either stay until the end or medical out. A few die. We have very few pilots that voluntarily leave. I would bet we have more pilots die than we do that voluntarily leave before mandatory retirement age.

True and certainly get why some stayed, but I'm still guessing there were many, "I won't stay past 60," who did so. That's their right and I don't fault them for it. But I flew with quite a few guys on the 330 who, self admittedly, still had ~10K/month pensions, on top of whatever else they've saved, who flew right up to their 65th birthday. Man of them still flying very high time lines at straight pay (picking up of the swap board to get there). If we get age 67, I bet most who still have their medicals, will truck along until their 67th birthday. Again, I don't fault them, I just don't believe the "most won't stay," talk.

I think most will stick around as well. A few may fly full schedules but most I talk with want a part time job flying one or two trips a month. I think they will be the most unproductive group we have. If they are too junior to make that happen then they just retire or medical out.

I'm not sure the relevant question is whether they stay or don't stay. I would think the more important metric would be, "What is the perceived impact".
Last time compared to this time......

You are talking 2 years not 5.
You are talking massive retirements vice paltry retirements
You are talking current massive hiring compared to virtually none before due to economic malaise.
You are talking great wages compared to 46% pay cuts.(pro and/or con...cuts both ways)

To me, the concer may be the same(stagnation) but it won't play out like last time. It would be more of a slowing of hiring and progression.... might not be the current "Full speed ahead", or "Flank speed ahead".... but more like " Half ahead, both engines"

The bill in question references Age 67 and 364 days. That is 2.997 years which rounds to 3 years, not 2.

I will assume you are correct( I don't care enough to look it up). So, how does that impact the majority of my points. Is the sky gonna fall.....or, on the other end of the spectrum , do you think it will be a big pffft?
