”may return”. It just says if you are under 67 but previously forced to retire you can fly again. Just like with age 65. Those pilots will have had their names removed from the seniority list on their 65th birthday and would be eligible to come back at the bottom of the list if rehired by delta.
I heard a story about a guy who retired as a 767ER Captain at 60 when the age was 60, and he came back at age 62 as a new hire, MD88 FO, after the age went to 65, flew 3 more years, out of NYC I think. Anyone ever fly with him and hear his story? Of course now that all the Mad Dogs are gone and new hires are getting 767 Capt bids at 6 months, I could see a lot of guys coming back as new hires, just for the medical insurance and other benefits.

Now, here’s a question; how many weeks of vacation would that “new hire” pilot get? And when traveling on a pass, what’s his pass travel seniority “date of hire”? 30+ years ago or first year?

Yea....you are not quite understanding. Usually the AE posting doesn't get a lot of drama. However, because you are new and excited(almost like a 16yo male envisioning his first "lucky" date) all your focus is on just seeing an AE posted.

For years the post "AE is out" was meant to convey the RESULTS of the award are out. It got to be a joke of sort for the impatient regarding the results.

But, you have created a paradigm shift where the gnash cluster is advanced on the time line(I truly understand your excitement, these are heady days) ..... all you want to see is a posting of the AE.

So, the above the "AE is out" doesn't quite mean what you think it means.

Reminds me of a very old joke about an old bull and a new bull up on a hill looking down at a herd of cows grazing. The young bull says let's run down and do us one. The old bull responds, "Patience, let's walk down and do 'em all"

BTW....did you drive your parents crazy approaching Christmas? Just think, after tomorrow you will have 11 more days to squirm in unbridled anticipation. No rim shots allowed after puberty.

I think it is you who missed Flex’s sarcasm here. He’s leaning in to his impatience.

Not sure about this version, but we definitely had a FedEx Captain who retired at 60 or so start with Delta as a new hire in the early 2008 timeframe, not long after the rule change. He posted on here a bit and was a great addition.

We had 7 or so pilots as I recall that took that retired when there was a run on the DB that came back as new hires. I flew with one of them on the 88. Really good guy.

True story. Took retirement pre bankruptcy. Flew citations out of AL after DL. Got bored and came back right seat of 88 until hitting 65. Super humble and nice guy.

I flew with a NYCM88A who had taken the early out from Delta during the bankruptcy and then got hired at Compass. Due to no effort on his part he ended up flowing back to Delta through the NWA/CPZ flow agreement. Not long after we flew together he retired a second time from Delta! HA!

He was in my new hire class. He was greeted by name by all of the 4th Floor types as they came thru the class. Awesome guy, was just informed this week that he sadly passed just about 2 years ago due to Cancer.
