The full chamber votes are a formality. It’s not going to get removed from the house bill. The senate committee starts their hearing at 10:00 tomorrow, an amendment is expected to add the language. If that passes, it’s done. If not, it could still get added through concurrence.

For those of us who are not into politics, how the heck does this have anything to do with an AE memo being posted tomorrow? Does the company really believe age 67 will do anything? I thought we needed to be a 17,000 pilot airline? Even if every single pilots stayed and actually worked until 67, that would only put us at 16,800 in two years. So they have no choice but to post an AE unless they wanna stop hiring completely because I believe we are pretty close to running out of new hire positions are we not?

I don’t believe this will have any effect on the ae, although if it’s smaller than they originally said they surely will blame it on regulatory uncertainly or something like that.

This bid will be more narrowbody than wide body, and effected less by mandatory retirements. Also, if it’s added in senate committee, there is still a significant time to implementation. And that says nothing about the complexities of 65+ not being able to fly outside of US and Canadian airspace.

Dude you could argue anything in the world can get any job on this planet. Just a bad way to live and stress yourself out for no reason and something you have no control over. 65-67 wouldn’t even do much. Just look at the post VEOP. Sure retirements kick the can down the road but then it just comes back massively before we know it. Not even accounting for growth and like others have said the rising % that will likely milk disability.

it also still needs to go through ICAO which will take some time otherwise that will be a disaster.

My personal opinion while not worth much is that thinking this news changes anything about the AE is wild. They’ve been planning this for months, no way they suddenly change positions that quick OR even consider this on an AE that will be done in a short time anyways.

Before anyone goes crazy, here’s what it says:

A pilot who is over 65 years of age on the date of enactment of this bill may return to service in multicrew covered operations until 67 years of age.
”may return”. It just says if you are under 67 but previously forced to retire you can fly again. Just like with age 65. Those pilots will have had their names removed from the seniority list on their 65th birthday and would be eligible to come back at the bottom of the list if rehired by delta.

And the lawsuits would start at 0000. Guaranteed

Good luck. The pwa is clear. The law is clear. There’s also precedent from the 60 to 65 transition.

Of course ALPA and the company could agree to amend the pwa and give people back their seniority, but I don’t see either side being interested in that.
