It's unlikely closing SEA 7ER will cause resultant displacements. They'll probably open up an equal or more number of positions for them to displace into like they did last time. Anyone who displaces into a category without openings, I predict they will just absorb the extra pilots there to cut down on resulting training cycles. Trickle down bump displacements are always a mess and used as a last resort when things get bad, because of their cost.

Like FangsF15 said, I just have one in now just in case I forget or I’m on vacation or life support. Like Fangs said, it’s free.
I do leave VD blank as that’s a whole other can of worms and I don’t necessarily wish to give up MD benefits, especially if it’s my category going away. There are lots of VD v MD discussions and, luckily, I don’t think anybody needs to be overly concerned about that right now.

Absolutely. A senior NBB could get displaced and decide to MD to WBB. Not crazy at all. All depends on what people want and don’t want and where the open positions are. VD is fine if you wanna get out of the category. Maybe there’s a ton of spots to where you want to go and therefore you do a VD because you don’t think the displacements will reach you. Maybe you know you’ll be fine but don’t wanna be more junior. All I know is have a MD in if you put in for a VD. MD will hit before VD and therefore you’ll get some contract protections. For example, you lose a paid move with a VD.

Paid moves are covered under 6.A.3. VDs are absolutely eligible for paid moves, if you meet the definition of “eligible pilot”.
A VD could also hit before an MD. If a junior pilot is getting MD’d, a more senior pilot with a VD could take his place from being MD’d (with the senior pilot not having his MD triggered).
VDs carry seat locks if QT required.
MD have no seat locks.
Generally speaking, your VD should mirror your AE.
When a category is closing, it is generally more advantageous to delete your AE and VD and just have an MD so you transfer to your new position without a seat lock.
MEC brief 17-09 (on DALPA website) “Filling of Vacancies Bidding 101” goes in to great detail.

Thanks. It’s been awhile since the 88. Rusty. Makes me doubt my reality now. Thanks for clarifying.
