There is a cult of 717 here. I’m a member. It will go junior but not as junior as you think. It would surprise you how senior some people are on the Barbie jet.

Oh totally, not knocking it, just sayin if it does from like 65 jets to 88, that’s about a 33% increase in hulls and pilots needed. Especially with the 319/320 banded to 738, it does leave the 717 lagging in the NB for pay.

That rumor has been running under the radar for a while now. The 717 has picked up a lot of flying out of MSP, which currently is mostly covered from DTW but also a decent amount from ATL. Most of the cancellations on the fleet seem to be out of MSP since they have to DH pilots in there to cover broken rotations. ATL seems to have hit a cap on 717 flying, unless they just upgauge a ton of regional stuff. All of the recent pilot growth on the fleet has been in DTW to cover flying growing in DTW and MSP. In the end it's a matter of where network wants those new tails flying that will determine where the pilots needed will end up.

It was offered for the first time on the Jan 2020 AE (that was subsequently cancelled due to COVID). We also were in the process of hiring a BOS chief pilot then too. Which means absolutely nothing except the rule that states: until delta pilots are flying delta painted metal out of location x, it’s all subject to change (planes, bases, onboard snack offerings, etc)
