I think the point is that the information is out there and you don’t have to dig too deep. In the past 6-9 months this very question has been asked, discussed and re-hashed several times over.

Additionally, there is a benefit of self-study. While you are looking for an answer to your question, you learn so much else along the way.

That’s fair! Well let’s get back on track then. Anyone hear anything else regarding the next AE this week? Last update we had on here was a “mid-late June” said by BS at a meeting, right?

Haven’t “heard” anything, but by the summer flying memo and SLI’s to the line, things seem to line up for a bid to come out mid-late summer and training to start in fall. I’d imagine it needs to either be a large bid OR a start of many frequent and small ones. It doesn’t seem like anything beyond wrapping up past AE training is happening for a bit.

It’ll be an interesting summer, with a backdrop of what the economy does overall in charting the course.

In my infinite wisdom from being here so long (sarcasm) i don't understand why they don't just do small monthly bids. They seem to always assume they want X, put out a bit AE and mess up the staffing because by the time the last guy or gal converts, now they want Y. If they just did small monthly bids, easier to adjust and if you screw it up, it's much easier to clean up the mess.

FWIW, there will still be NSLI (DGS) doing some training/CQ. But the SLI’s will reportedly be on the line for all 3 summer months…

They are still starting classes this week. There is no way they will all be trained by June. Some fleets were already behind months. So all these people will be sent home in June? And have to restart training in September? And classes will stop until August? Not saying I don’t believe you but I don’t understand the logistics. They should have already paused all classes if this was the case. Will this put training behind for the future? Re-reading your post I guess the non-SLI’s will handle the load, but they still need some SLI’s.

I flew with one of our training department leadership people recently on their once in a blue moon trip. They confirmed that the instructors will be going back to the line, and I brought up the point you bring up above of, “why would they still be holding classes when those pilots will clearly still be in training in May/June?”. They just laughed and shrugged.

Sounds like a job for DiscussionQs. Mods bring back the bot.

Well, In the 320 department we are rotating approximately 85 SLIs to the line. That still leaves a combination of 130 SLI, PCP, NSLI and APDs to carry what ever training is still being conducted over the summer months....

I suspect time from indoc to training will grow into September.

then you have to consider the fact of how many crews flow through AMS/LHR/CDG on 350? Some days and routes would be zero. No scheduling flexibility at all.

right now none of these bullets make sense for 350 in Slc besides maybe ICN. Which again they said wouldn’t happen until after Asiana merger and probably not end of decade timeframe (that NYC would get ICN route first)
Talked with a 330 check airmen and he said 330SLC is not in the discussion and the 350 is now the favorite. Performance in the summer is the driving factor. They also need enough rotations through the base year round to justify it.
