What exactly is wrong with “one-n-done,” followed by a month off? I kinda liked that, except for the 20 dozen Jepp envelopes that awaited your return …. fun times doing updates 😳. Thank you EFB for saving the day.

I remember they built a B line in LAX a couple months ago that had ATL-MUC-ATL then the day after you got back you did double 3 leg days. I was stunned, lol

I’m not on the fleets….but I believe they split the flight time up by crew compliment/time.
so 3 people, and 9 hour flight would be about 3 breaks of 3 hours. So longest time in the seat would be 6 hours.
if it’s 4-man 16 hour flight, there would be 4 x 4 hour breaks. So longest in seat would only be 4 hours cause they swap both pilots out.
im 99% sure that’s how it’s roughly done

4 pilots can be different and is up to the senior CA how they want to split breaks. (Full disclosure we don’t do 4 pilots on the ER except when OE is being done so I’ve only talked to pilots about these) There are 3 patterns that seem to be the go to. They can cut the flight time in half and do 1 long break each, they can do uneven breaks where they each get a long and a shot break, or they can have the relief crew take the first 1/4 and last 1/4 as break and the landing crew gets the middle 1/2.

Because no one wants them. The 787 is. Far superior airplane. Just because Delta doesn’t want to purchase yet another fleet type (I don’t blame them) does not mean that Boeing is failing in providing widebody jets.

this. It’s my understanding the 787-8 burns less gas per trip on a comparable TATL route vs a 763. Carrying more pax, more revenue cargo with the ability to fly a few thousand miles further if they want that flexibility. I can’t think of a reason to buy a new 763 instead of a 788.
