Oh I'm aware of all that, I was here during all that. I'm just saying what they said at the base meeting. I'm sure part of the company's view is that we serve it out of AMS and CDG, just on KLM and Air France metal. But it sounds like they would prefer to go non-stop as well.

I mean, if you're running literally ALL the sims 24/7 anyways, what difference does it make if it's a 4 year guy or a newhire in the right seat (as anyone in that range who actually wanted a left seat has already taken it)?
Because new hires have a provision to bid off essentially 350/717/220/ER in 1 year and go to a different base causing more training cycles that are not necessary.

Fair point. They would have to squeak out the AE in next 8 weeks then. Which seems quick and unlikely considering we have maybe filled up 50 slots of new hires since last AE. But what do I know. I just think it makes more sense to start planning ahead than buy 2 months of time for the inevitable and then try to figure out your planning off that. Since all they care about is summer staffing they could get an idea now for 2024 or start panicking in Q4 … which now that I say it, that’s probably what will happen

Because the newhire guy allows staffing to increase and the company to cover more flying. Keeps the guys in their seats through the brunt of the summer as well. I’m skeptical how much UNA movement there will be. Many have taken an upgrade since Apr 2021, and others have had locks removed in the last few AEs at company discretion.

I think that might be less frequent now than the old days, they seem to do a better job on slots for newhire classes and getting people their top choices, compared to the old days of pre set numbers per seat. My class had a slide come up with the categories, number available, and we went in line picking our plane. Now it seems there’s more flex, and likely fewer guys getting stuck on a jet they don’t want and thus popping their lock after a year.

That is huge if that’s how they do it. Old way of determining numbers and just going off that so last 1/3 of the class essentially gets something they don’t really want is not efficient. But that was also a lot of MD88/717 slots so my thought process is old. Now a days who knows SLC737 is the plug or 330 in NYC lol

That’s just what I’m inferring based off the class drops. There’s never numbers associated, so I assume they have some flux if needed. No official word, so I’m just kind of going off what people “reckon”. Crazy looking at the last seniority list and seeing a stack of newbs on the 330, and it went plug! Man I remember when that was ATL88 for class plugs!

Smarter system overall, don’t force as many folks around and they’ll possibly stay where they are longer=fewer training events. It’s all about every extra %

One of the AE memos last year kinda touched on that, that they wanted more opportunities open for newhires to try and avoid the two year jump, if I’m remembering correctly.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to give you a history lesson. I should have made it clear I was just questioning the company as to why we don’t serve it anymore. Is the A350-900 not capable of making it to JFK or ATL from BOM?

Go on FD pro and put in ATL and Bombay. Then look at all the no fly areas that great circle route takes you thru.
