Reserve requirements are a major variable to solve for. The other cost factor is the expense of relocation if a category closes. Our contractual relocation benefits are expensive.

What if we could create some kind of satellite base with BOS trips created from NYC block hours, then bid those hours from the NYC bid pack. Maybe we could even build a DH at the front and back of the month to get pilots in position from NYC. If it works, we could try the same for MCO from ATL time. It seems like a flexible solution for creating trips without the financial risk of opening/closing a base. Seems like a win/win. Maybe on a trial basis?

On the same equipment? Haven't heard of the "go to training for left seat, then transition to right seat" plan before.

In general you'd incur a 2yr seat lock every time you require the full training course, with lots of exceptions etc.

left seat is a 12month seat lock for the short course. I know it’s unusual to go back to the right seat, but if there isn’t any movement, it’s in my cross check. I assume it’s another 12 month seat lock, but any/what training?

I see what you did there! Maybe try it for a month and see how it goes?

When a ‘good deal’ pops up, it seems just like my military days. “I didn’t get a good deal so you can’t have one either…”

Great idea, you can do that now, Bid NYC or ATL get senior and commute. Or encourage Fltops is open a thing called a base. I'm guessing my home base will not happen though, no airline service from my airport. Unless...

I’ve heard this satellite idea for BOS rumored about before. Supposedly it’s more permanent than the VB idea, but would still offer FLTOPS flexibility to move some staffing when needed. None of this changes the fact that BOS can easily support a pilot base for the 330/320/220 already.

You can come down or you can slow down, but not both at once (unless you're Maddoggin' it).
