my point being, again, that these comparisons don’t hold well
I don’t know what career path you are on but I’ve been doing this for 16 years and I can count on one hand the number of years I’ve gotten more than two weeks of vacation.

Make that two opinions… you are wrong our vacation is not even vacation like other industries get. Ours is like forced time off when the company dictates. Kind of like the auto plants shut down each year for model turnover. You literally have no choice when it’s taken.
Immediate rebuttal in the same paragraph is pretty good. You've confirmed we are like other seasonal industries. We actually get a choice based on seniority, like every other unionized workforce that bids for vacation. It is much better than model year turnover. All seasonal workforces have vacation limitations like accounting, agriculture or education for starters. Give Delta the option for 60 hour months in the winter and we could probably get more summer weeks if that is what you are after.

That type of vacation plan usually has an annual vacation value with the option to bid individual days on a monthly basis. We could do something similar by taking our vacation value and dividing by 5:15 increments to be used individually in seniority order. Delta would love the efficiencies gained in that type of system where it burns 21 hours of vacation, but only 4 days off. Pilots would have three more days to WS in a vacation month. We are our own worst enemies.

That’s the only comparison (autos) yet they still get weeks of discretionary vacation. We are not seasonal workers no matter how “hot” management runs June-August. Our vacation is not discretionary, I know that is how our system works but now is the opportunity to make it better. Better access to desired weeks and better pay are the objectives. We can do that within our system, the comparison is irrelevant was my point.

our vacation absolutely is discretionary. You bid for it, slide it, move it between months, and even split it up with IVDs

How about compare to other airlines instead of other industries?

It seems that was where the NC was aiming us in the contract comparison.

6th week like UAL?

Faster vacation accrual steps (earlier in your career)?

Higher daily value (if I’m reading it right Alaska just achieved 3:45/day so our TVAC+ weeks at 3:30/day are even more lacking)?

More IVD flexibility? These are hugely beneficial - move that unwanted day in Feb to dump a “black day” August trip.

What else?

If they can get us to at/near the top of our industry peers on that comparison doc we will have vastly improved the value & utility of our vacation. Then on to the next PWA section. Grab gains and keep moving forward.

Those rarely work anymore due to staffing, but if that’s your belief you are entitled to it. Slide, NOV slide 2 different attempts - nope. Bid - very funny. Move up - nope someone else has to be willing to give it up. IVDs - nope they don’t work at least 50 days of the year and now many more. I see several areas for improvement but if you call this discretionary for a 15+ year employee, ok. I don’t.

They absolutely work. Have you ever tried an IVD?

if you’re a 15 year employee who cannot hold thanksgiving off (what would enable the slide), you’ve chosen to be junior in a seat and give up seniority advantages.
