If Boeing and GE would make us a block buster offer on engines and the B777-9 would we pull the trigger and order?

Would Delta ever commit to a not-yet-certified variant for a stupidly cheap price? *cough 737-10 cough*.

They just may

A 777 order would require the company to essentially admit they were wrong about retiring them in the first place.

I wouldn’t count on it, the 4th floor’s hubris knows no bounds.

Convair 880, L1011, MD11, MD90. We like them different.

We didn’t get them that cheap.

Boeing will just tell us to pound sand, which is what they did leading up to the eventual order. We said uncle, not Boeing.

Not true. The people who said Uncle were the engine manufacturer. The hold up was the maintenance contract, which we got.

We may not have gotten a 220 style deal, but Boeing was also pretty motivated for us to have SOMETHING ordered.

That’s not happening, even if said scenario was probable, DL would be interested in maybe 10-20 (even 20 is pushing it) airframes for an aircraft with that capacity. I would *think* it would be much cheaper and desirable from management to get A35K’s to add to our existing Airbus fleet or to get a larger order of 787’s to add range/replace the 767s, but ordering a small fleet of a new aircraft type is unlikely. I’ve been wrong before though…

That’s why….

We tried to get the white tails in the desert for a song. Boeing told us pound sand.

We ordered 30 used 900’s as a punishment(future leverage) for Boeing not making us a deal.

It took us forever to make the eventual Max order.

We negotiated in public as a way to bypass marketing, which was telling us to pound sand.

We didn’t get a deal, we got the going rate. Boeing wasn’t taking our crap…that’s why we had a 10 year gap in Boeing orders.

Boeing was not desperate for an order.

i’m really not sure where we would fly them to. Any suggestions? Delta has pretty much given up on Asia and 777-9 is to much airplane for US Europe.

I said motivated, because we didn’t have anything on order through them. And I order to get it done, Boeing put pressure on the engine manufacturer to allow us to do our own engine maintenance and for others as well. That’s the only way we order airplanes these days. I’ve heard that’s the hang up with more of the 350s (the -1000 at least).

All about the engine maintenance contract.
