This is 100% false. The company literally has said many times that any 757 route over 2,200 miles will be replaced by the 321N. That’s every single transcon, Hawaii, etc. the 321N is not a 320 replacement. Not even close. That’s been official company info for at least 6-9 months now.

take a look at the LAX-HNL route. 1 1/2 months it was 2/3 on neos and now back to 2/3 ERs because so much out of base Hawaii ER flying was poorly inefficiently built.

nothing is plug and play at this airline. Plus we still need performance improvements on neos to do Latin America that it can’t do and replace the 757 with. Yet. Maybe someday if delta actually invested in something other than the bare bones basic models. Kind of like not buying LR’s or XLR’s but people are convinced our basic neos are going to Europe.
Although I’ve been told we could still switch future orders to LR’s or better. Would be a nice investment imo.

Anything that is 4+ hours in length that was a 757-200 that does not absolutely require a 757-200 for performance (~3 airports?) will be a 321NEO and/or later a 737MAX with the exception of flights that revenue management wants to be larger airplane such as a 767-400 at a higher demand time.
But again, 757-200s will not be used for long flights with long runways any more, NEO/MAX delivery schedule pending. +10,000 pound difference in fuel burn over a transcon.

like I said in my comment that route has been and currently is flown by 76ER, 764, 330
Your comment is also just not correct. We work at Delta where networking will swap fleets like candy. Then people get upset when they see a neo doing short stage length flights because you think a 321neo is classified for 1 specific thing and that’s all the long haul transcon and Hawaii flying you specifically want it to do.
Never get attached to a route being on an airplane here. We are not that airline. It changes monthly, hell sometimes daily and weekly.
