Great - if I was in charge of network I'd made Austin a hub for us. Great 220/73N/321 hub, can hit both coasts comfortable. High income city with business so good O/D traffic, nice mid-continent location
Only problem is enough gates, that would be the sticking point. I know they are getting a new concourse but that's years away.

I thought one of the main reasons AA pulled back from Austin was due to scope violation(s)? They had too many regional jets flying from a non-hub city to another non-hub city. I thought AA and D have similar scope provisions that 'X' percent of regional flying must always touch a hub. As D builds up more flying in Austin, also with a similar spread of regional jets, won't that be an issue? I think anytime there is a increase in flying in a city, whether regional or mainline, it is a good thing.
There’s a list of cities that are our general hubs. At least 90% of RJ flying has to be to or from those cities. In addition, any other city with an average of at least 50 daily mainline flights counts as one of these cities aka hubs. If Austin hits 50 mainline/day, the RJ scope won’t be an issue. I think during peak travel we fly almost 50 flights/day, I just don’t know how many are mainline.

Read PWA 1.D.5. To paraphrase:

I suspect there will be more growth before then as we seem to announce a new round of AUS routes about every 3-4 months. CUN, SJD, MIA/FLL, SAN, SNA, SJC, PDX all seem likely candidates for mainline service. Depending on how much we want to poke UA ORD and DEN are way up there too.

As of right now June 2025 will have 56 departures of which 38 (68%) are mainline. I’m not sure where this puts AUS in our network but it’s gotta be in the top 3 with MCO and RDU in terms of departures.
