Makes sense. The NBA leased charter 757s we fly are getting a little long in the tooth. Still sweet though.

They're all between 33-35 years old. There are also 11 of them, so this would be a net +2 for us. Good for Delta pilots!

NBA leases the 757 from a 3rd party, they are replacing thier aging fleet and continuing the operator contract. The 757s were sold to a leasing company and rather than retired were retrofitted as VIP charter jets. Delta doesn't own the 757s just operates them, the same will be true for the Airbi.

Great deal all around. Heard that before Covid we were looking into a similar deal with some 763s for the NFL. Selling a dozen to Amazon put paid to that.

That is a good deal for Delta and pilot jobs.

That article is crap that gets spit out by AI. I know our jobs are safe for a long time.

Heard this rumor from a charter coordinator a few years ago. For once a charter coordinator rumor turned out to be true !

I hope they keep the Shaq lav.

When would Delta start flying these A321’s? I assume they will retire the 757’s 1:1 as they arrive? Will the 7ER pilots see natural attrition, or will there be a displacement bid?

It sounds like the overall flying is staying the same (same amount of NBA teams and same amount of away games), so the difference between 11 and 13 airplanes shouldn’t make much of a difference, other than increasing reliability.

They won’t displace 7ER pilots for this. Too few flights in the larger block hour pool to make a difference. Might mean one or two fewer backfills, but we wouldn’t even know it happened, IMO.

How so? We've been buiding charters into regular rotations now for many years.

Again, don't see how this equates to more jobs. We've been building charter into regular rotations for sometime now. We moved away from dedicated charter rotations some time ago, unless something has changed recently that I'm not aware of.

Agree. This doesn't move the bar at all regarding pilot numbers. They (the leasor of the NBA planes) are just replacing the 75 charter planes with NEOs. Nothing more. Now the baby bus folks can enjoy the rotations built with a charter jammed in a regular rotation. Have fun.
