I guess I'm being a negative Nancy here but how do you make the cabin wider without changing the exterior of the fuselage? Answer - you remove stuff that was engineered to be there for a reason. Intermediate flap setting to increase takeoff performance on the 900s? How about fixing the ridiculous performance penalty assosciated with any tailwinds or crosswinds greater than 20 KTS.
This just strikes me as very similar to how Boeing keep stretching the 737 until things went horribly wrong. Like I said, I am being a bit negative here - perhaps someone else has a more optimistic take on all of this.
Seems like in times past Boeing and Airbus would design a more capable aircraft. Now partly due to financial pressure they just keep modifying existing models until negative consequences arise. Sort of like a "Peter Principal" for aircraft.

I can’t help it if you’re a ****ty pilot and can’t do your job. I’ll give you one great reason to single engine taxi - millions of gallons of fuel. If you know what you’re doing (I’m thinking half the pilots on here don’t) SET is perfectly safe and I always give the FO plenty of time to start 2. No reason not to routinely do it unless you have a short taxi.
