Did you not listen to Delta's forward guidance?
nah, I don't usually listen to those. I guess we'll all see when the Qtr1 numbers come out. I did see UAL is stopping hiring.

You should have been a fly on the wall at a recent standards meeting!

I don't have the link but, expedita or Travelocity last week said they are eliminating 1500 positions due to decreased travel demand.

You're retired.

How would you know what happened at the standards meeting?

This will amaze you but I have several friends who still work at Delta. 3 told me the exact same story about what happened. It was commented on here a while back. Next time you fly with a check airman ask. To say the meeting was contentious would be a understatement.

Was it "contentious" because of a discussion about troubling performance of new hires, or was it more along the lines of the LCAs bluntly telling Flight Ops Mgmt what they thought about:

1. The sh!t IT products, to include Mission Minus, "new and improved" miCrew, "new and improved" DeltaNet

2. Cosmically stupid new uniform rollout, that finally had to be paused due to the buffoonery

3. Etc.

I've been on the 330 for about a year, so (hopefully) my domestic flying days are over, and I likely won't fly with new hires again. However, I flew as a 717 and 320 captain for 8+ years, and flew with a lot of great new hires. Even the ones needing some mentoring, only needed a little, and still flew a good airplane. If things have changed significantly in the last year or two I am not aware--but perhaps I am out of the loop these days.

I fly with new hires on the majority of my trips.. and they're fine. Obviously some are better than others, but they're all safe enough. And then I've noticed if I fly with them again after 6 months to a year on the line they're even better!

The vast majority I am absolutely sure are excellent. If however you put someone through the entire training program twice and give them 75 hours of IOE and retain them against recommendations you might have a issue.
Flight standards at Delta is by the way outstanding and they go to great lengths to make sure the product they deliver to the line is excellent.
