Not sure if this is when we were at Terminal 5/6 or the new ones, but I thought the -9 page requires us now to two engine taxi in LAX due to ramp jet blast concerns. Maybe he’s the reason why!

No, no we're not. You could have just said " run the APU when necessary" but you didn't.

Since 2008 at least, 2 engines at LAX. The best local oddity is having to call for a tug if you lose your inertia once point at a gate in the alley. Beer on the captain, unless it's the homebound leg/turn; todays "protect essential!" Like somebody said, 737 is a choice .... if you yearn for single engine taxi immunity, seek the 220 or 321 NEO (forever start time followed by a significant warmup burden).

He's still doing it (even from T2 to 24L). The FOs tell me about him all the time 😂 I think he retires soon though.

NVM this is the 350 chat. We've been proudly taxiing on 2 engines since 2017.

On a 3 day trip I had to tell the tower on 2 legs that we needed a few more minutes for checklist because we were holding short and the second engine wasn’t warmed up.
On the same trip we decided to SET for 10 seconds and then start the 2nd on the way to the deice pad in MSP. While starting the engine “What were those taxi instructions again?”“Ehh call them back and verify I hold short of 22 on B.” “See if we can keep rolling and not hold short” “Call iceman and see if they know what spot” “Do you have the guide up?” There was a pack or bleed valve MEL that made the flow slightly different. The whole trip was more stressful than it needed to be.
SET has a time and place. If there are any obstacles I start 2. Threat mitigation.

Not anymore, at least on the largest fleet. On an Airbus, the fleet is 100% teaching no more cross-bleed starts. The FADEC idles a SE at a higher RPM and more importantly, Fuel Flow. The APU actually uses less gas (180#/hr) than a SE Cross-bleed start does, by a good bit. Next time you do one, look at the FF of that SE in idle, and compare it with the FF once both are running. (It’s more than 180# higher). Not to mention the further increased FF once the engine is bumped up for the start itself.
All ‘consideration’ for the FO aside, a crossbleed start should only be used when driven my MEL, like APU Inop.
