No don’t you know United is going to own every widebody type in the world, 500 widebodies, and 35,000 pilots. All by 2030. Very bright future ahead for them.

Yeah I should preface that I wasn’t talking about the engine availability but the engine overhaul issues that are affecting airlines to park their neos that were delivered a few years ago. I hear those problems are not going to be a factor for our P&W. It’s the neos that we’re delivered years ago.

Totally agree. And also don't forget about supersonic jets they are getting. The one with the vaporware engine that is!

I need some advice.

I've been here for 6 years. Spent a couple years on the 320 and a couple on the 330. I've loved it, but I miss being a Captain. For my base, the 737 left seat would put me around 50% and the 717 would be near 60%. The 320 would be around 75%. I'm a short guy so I've heard the 737 wouldn't be too bad. I'm worried about the loud flight deck noise though. The 717 seems great but I know retirements are happening sooner than later. The easy transition would be the 320 but I kind of want to try something new and I like the 737 trips better and would have the best seniority.

Is the 737 really that bad? I've heard horrible things about the plane but from my research it doesn't seem that bad. I really like the trips. Caribbean flying is a new concept for me and I would like to try it. Does the 737 have all the cool features such as CPDLC? How are WATRS? All I really know is NAT flying. Is it an easy flying airplane like the Airbus? I like the idea of the -10 in a few years too. I'm a 1-2 leg kind of guy. I don't care about having a yoke or anything like that. Is the HUD cool?

Anything I should be afraid of when it comes to the 737? How about the 717? If I got the 717, are we keeping them for a few years at least?

I know I asked a lot of questions so I'd appreciate any tips or advice anyone may have for me.

As far as the 717 goes, don’t count it out yet. If Covid doesn’t happen, there is little doubt Delta is still flying MD-90s today. Delta loves paid off airplanes. If you listened closely, there was a mad cackle of glee from the 4th floor everytime an 88 broke ground in ATL headed for some Ham or Ville. They will squeeze every last dime out of the airplane before it is let go. You could take an upgrade and spend several years before they even think about sending them away. Good luck.

you mentioned one key thing. You are relatively short.

if I were you, I would bid 737A. That’s too much seniority to pass up. Just get a good noise canceling headset. 👍

User name checks out . I’d bid the 73 if you’re short. At least you can put your luggage in the cockpit from the left seat. It’s not quite as bad as people say.

Bid the 737. Plane is easy to fly.. I'm 5'10 and fit fine. HUD is cool, but wouldn't really make me bid a plane just for the HUD. The trips are decent and with your seniority you could probably hold good trips. WATRS is easy, just review the gouge if you haven't flown it for a while. We have CPDLC and a few 900s have Satcom as well.

Being a captain makes the job much more relaxing and predictable to me. Would recommend.
