I don't get why WB guys get touchy if someone says they don't like long haul.

I got about 11 years and 7000 hours left seat in your a/c, Mostly doing Caribbean in fact. I'm just trying to give polite pushback on the fact that you really can't comment unless you've seen both sides of the airline. And I don't really consider even 330 across the Atlantic the true international experience. four-man is where it's at.

Human nature. Pride of "ownership".

It's like having a girlfriend who won the Miss America pagent last year and that >95% of hetero sexual males find physically attractive. Then a few people chime in that "she's" not attractive...some of whom have never even seen(experienced) "her".

The same "pride of ownership" happens by guys like Trip defending the NB captain and how great it is. The difference is, the majority of WB guys truly enjoy it whereas there are far fewer "Trips" that defend a minority position.***

When a very small majority tear down something that the great majority find "pretty", they are in for some pushback.

I wonder why the WB FO goes so senior? Because the majority find it enchanting.

***Nothing against Trip, as Trip accurately says..."something for everybody at Delta".

I went from MD88 to 7ER B in 2008 ATL to NYC, and I kind of expected to be flying with older, more "set in their ways types on the 7ER, but discovered the opposite....the ER guys and girls were super chill and really enjoyable to fly with. (Not that the majority of MD 88 guys and girls weren't. (There were a few oddballs on that fleet though. ))

The spectrum of 717 all the way to 350 flying should be seen as a benefit; especially compared to our competitors who lack and equivalent mainline jet at the lower end. At my previous, wholly owned carrier, I flew with tons of pilots who only wanted to fly the 717. I knew I wanted to fly international. I think it's great that we all can get what we want. Shout out to you angry puppy drivers!

It would actually be interesting to see how many are there for ease of commute. Almost all of the senior WB FO's I flew with commuted from all over the place. I flew with one from the middle of nowhere Maine and another lived about as far north as you can get in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. If I ever end up commuting, I'll likely bid back to WB and probably wouldn't look back. I wouldn't be there because it's enchanting, but for simplicity of life.

Didn't you get the memo? If you aren’t a WBA you don’t matter. You have no idea what a real airline pilot job looks like, and you haven’t been around long enough for your opinion to matter.

Signed someone who has flown WB and found it not to their liking at all (mostly due to the walking zombie syndrome).

There are just so many benefits it's hard to even fathom not doing it really. Commute, long layovers, single leg days, no reroutes or sits, dozing for dollars, higher pay rate, low reserve utilization, lots of space for activities on the flight deck, good hotels, etc.

And the only downsides really is the sleeping and maybe boredom during flight, maybe few green slips.. And once you get a little seniority you can just do the earlier Europe departures so you aren't getting in at insane hours body clock time.

I get commutable trips, nothing more than 3 legs a day, don’t fly red eyes except by choice (day last for commute) and never have to swap my body clock more than a couple hours. I’m good where I’m at. Glad you like where you are.
My point is, some people need to stop looking at NB pilots like they are lower life forms. Congrats, you are senior enough to hold it, not like you made WBA (or senior WBB) on MERIT. And those big fancy planes aren’t going to fill themselves without a domestic network.

Let's not get it twisted.... I'm a BIG WB fan and look forward to being in command of a A350-1000 over the Ocean. What the discussion is about here is whether WB anything(top pilot to plug) is better than same seat senior NB. I don't see too many senior NB pilots jumping for the bottom of a WB. I thought it be a positive for the pilot group to have a short course between 350 to the 330 and 330 to the 320 to give pilots more avenue to try different things. Someone might be interested in plug NYC330A for a couple of years then want to be top 5% on the 320 somewhere. It'll be silly for that pilot to have to do a long course.
