I'd still take twice as many airbuses for the same price, even if slightly less capable in your eyes or in reality.

Hell, if you were an Airbus fan boy and the types were flipped I'd still say double the less capable Boeings over the more capable Airbus would be the way to go.

You are basically trying to argue that your old gas guzzling Hemi Barracuda is best thing ever, well mainly because the chicks dug it in your prime and it gave you a tingle when you stomped on the gas.

and your short term memory loss doesn't account for the multitude of tech stops or waiting for an awabs in Jberg as well. Even the 777-200LR had issues with Jberg. Was it a great jet yes..but there is a reason only 60 we're ever made with less than 30 left flying.

They went through a couple different seating configurations and this was way before anyone heard of "Lie Flat" seats, but we went from around 296 to 306 seats.

Later when we got the 10 LRs Delta started flying ATL-JNB, ICN, DXB and LAX-SYD. The LR was the Balls! Those huge GE engines were awesome! 110lbs thrust! we could fill it up, 300 pax, 50K cargo and get off the ground in JNB, fly 16-17 hours to ATL.

The A350 is a great 250 pax airplane for 15 hours but if you need to go longer than that you need to cut it down to 220 pax.
Truth.

Filler.

Im curious to find where the line is on pilots being excited for a newer better plane vs my old plane was better. I personally have great memories in a CRJ but have no qualms with it being in the desert. 320 vs 321 easy call. 75/76 great plane, had a blast, 321NEO is my choice. New is always complicated not always way better but you have to acknowledge they are building and changing designs on new planes for a reason, not all are for pilot bragging rights.

Delta has changed, being “full” doesn’t mean anything. Delta has realized that not all pax on the weight and balance pay the same. Waiting for an AWABS at the gate to maximize revenue even if it means some unhappy economy tickets is nothing but slightly annoying. Our profit sharing pool is bigger than SWA entire profit, and they have “full” flights everywhere.

I go to work for a paycheck, not to be at a flying club. Newer planes burn less fuel and have more premium seats=more money. I don’t care if it has big engines and goes right to 410.

This is exactly what they consider. The 321 CEO was the replacement for the MD-80. Not the 220 like some think. It was said by those on the 4th floor that we could operate 321 CEOs half full in place of full MD-80s and still make more money. That’s what is going to happen now. My guess is we can operate partially full 339s on routes the 763 was on and still make a lot more money. Previous 339 routes like TLV, ATH, HND and others will shift to 359 and 339s will push the 333/2 to the 763 routes. 763s coming to a FL destination near you soon!

763s to Florida? Mix that in with my Caribbean turns and that sounds great!

As a former Boeing to a current Airbus I realize you must “embrace the suck” that both manufacturers bring to us. I hated the cockpit in the 737, two men in a phone booth during a hurricane. Now I am on the 330 - The land of the bulletin and a FMS designed by a sadist. I just hope the 350 does not have the RR engine issues the 330-900 has - pathetic.

Boeing seems like they lost their way decades ago when IMHO they gave the beancounters too much power and quality and engineering went to crap. Airbus does make a very comfortable workplace but it seems their are far too many “glitches” in the systems.

My recommendation for a solution is the following: Doc Brown (Back to the future) builds a Time Machine and goes back and Brings Dr Frankenstein to 1985. Doctor F combines the best of Boeing (1985) with the best of AB (2020) remember they have a Time Machine with a little Douglas thrown in , think 280 Slat/Flap speeds.

The resultant product. Has all the creature comforts if the Bus with a SS, the reliability, performance and logic of a 1985 757, with the sturdiness of a Douglas.

Until this happens - Embrace the suck.
