Yes, BDA is the IATA, TXKF is the ICAO.
I've flown the WAT in the -900 ALOT.
The 900 has a smaller radius for the single engine driftdown compared to the -800. There is a section all the way out on L459 between SHEIL and TALSU that puts you outside of the one hour still air range and would require an ETOPS airplane.
I've never been filed all the way out there in the many years I've been flying the WAT, but it is a known gotcha that we are told to watch out for.

From what I’m reading on the internet (so it must be true), the first class on the neos SUCK big time. I’ve heard the seat is very uncomfortable after like an hour. Probably should have done more seat cushion testing. Not really a wise move to order a brand new plane with rock hard seats. Not sure if it’s that they just have to be broken in but lots of people on the Delta subreddit forum are always complaining about the lack of comfort on a transcon on a neo

I've never flown the west altlantic stuff. I'm pretty much just a NATS guy. My guess is the dispatchers probably have some sort of interlock on the planning software that alerts them to putting a non-ETOPS jet on a far east Lima route. I know we have it for the WB.
Thanks for the info, appreciate it.

its on the QRCs. I don’t have it in front of me..Something along the lines of attempt to get ATC clearance; but if Safety of Flight will be impacted then deviate from course, change altitude, make radio calls in the blind, turn on lights, etc…

That's just standard oceanic procedure though. He's saying if you are going to deviate so much that it would require etops that you're supposed to declare an emergency I think.

Gotcha, thanks. I've only seen it as TXKF on the release. We occaisionally have it there as an ETOPS alt.

Same as when the Mad Dog had to go beyond 162nm offshore due to weather, etc.
Now, if you need wx deviations and it’s gonna be ugly and ATC says no, then yes declare and deviate.

Landing there as an alternate isn't smooth either, had a crew member tell me about doing that coming back from ACC had to wake up the tower, ops people and the ambulance crew. Of course middle of the night most of the alternate places we have would be asleep.

I can’t imagine you need to declare an emergency if you go outside of ETOPS for weather, etc. You ARE using emergency authority but no need to declare.
