Because in the years 2 B.C. and 1 B.C. (before covid) they sent many emails with colorful graphs and false promises about why there would be one. So much so that they said it would be on the Summer 2020 AE. People will hold onto any rumor there is if it fits their own narrative.

I don't think BOS, or A35K rumors should be the only thing that makes pilots skeptical. This management group lies to us all the time, both intentionally and unintentionally. I mean they use the PWA as TP on the 4th floor, so I don't understand why pilots put any stock into anything that comes out of their mouths.

I was hired beginning of 2020 and networking told my new hire class not only BOS base but a potential MIA base with the LATAM growth. Then Covid hit so everyone kinda ruled that out. I completely agree - I don’t know why anyone puts stock into anything said. More than half of it never happens.

That "was" the plan, then COVID, then LATAM BK, then the truth changed.

hired around the same time and I remember the same thing. BOS was a sure thing and was scheduled to open within 6 months and MIA would happen within 2-3 years.

AMS LHR CDG and ICN are the ultimate goals I think. They say 3 daily departures is the trigger for a base. But your point seems to make sense as well. Who knows. They seem to take an awful lot of time mulling it over.

Not to argue, but I'm not sure the truth changed. The plan might have changed, but not the truth.

The truth is, Delta is a capitalist enterprise. They will usually take actions which they think will maximize profits.

That is the truth. Period.

So opening bases and/or not opening bases will always fall under this umbrella.

As a 2020 hiree, is anyone really surprised that "the plan" changed WRT to bases/aircraft?

Does that make management liars? Would you rather have them follow through with announced plans even though it might cost them money?

I'll take "liars" of a solvent company as opposed to dolts who are incapable of evaluating new information and steer the company into being overleveraged/bankruptcy.

Slc trips are easily covered by all the other 330 bases with 6 day rotations too. It would be nice to have a WB base here but I am wondering the same. Either way I think long term with more west coast trips on 330 to ICN/HND, SEA could use either a LAX/SLC base. But I have started to come to terms with the reality that maybe it won’t happen too.

Well they have stated previously that once we have more 350s, LAX will be all 350 which is why there is no 330 base there now despite us flying HND LHR and CDG. So with SEA 330 and LAX 350, SLC could be covered by both, in addition to the other bases as you mentioned.

As someone already mentioned, CR has consistently said for years that they need three international departures a day for a widebody base. But that's only half of the full statement. They need a commitment from Network of three departures a day for FIVE YEARS to justify it.

Network won't commit to five weeks, let alone five years.

They also need excess training capacity. When the hiring slows dramatically expect them to look at new basing when they have the assets to make it work.
