Wait, were you not just posting in another thread toasting 73N trips and drinks in AUA???? LoL, it seems you've stepped on yet another rake Trip.

The 73N is going to be the "new" 88. Max, or no max (i say Max is at least 5-9 years from getting here). But hey, everyone says on APC; "don't bid the fleet for the trips, you know, because network changes". I predict this will make WB B continue to go senior as those that would want to bid NB A see the utter degradation of trips on those fleets. The only insulated one I see is the 717. Too bad it never got banded. I question those that sit NB A with master seniority between 2000-8000. You could be doing so much better on the WB fleets. Just my .02

There’s the stereotypical Delta captain we all know and love…the guy who knows what’s best for the lives of thousands of strangers and their families.

What makes you think we’re going to miss the Max delivery timeline by 3-7 YEARS?

There’s projected to be 3347 330/350/764 pilots. There’s projected to be 2380 7ER pilots. That’s 5727 pilots with a widebody in their category, but a lot of those pilots are flying 757s. I’m having trouble figuring out where you are finding 8000 seats for people to sit so you don’t have to question them for sitting NB. How about 1-2000? Are they allowed to sit NB, or do you judge them too? Do you think if 1-7999 were WB pilots, would 8000 be ok to now have their pick of #1 in category of any NB, or should they still (in the exalted HK’s big brain of knowledge) be the plug WB no matter what base it’s in? How do you find yourself dealing with the unbearable weight of massive knowledge that comes with knowing what’s the best for everyone else?

Been down both paths multiple times. That's right, fully capable of getting back to the right side after being the commander. NB A depends on very particular circumstances. This time around, new category and new routes with upper 10% seniority. I can still go green whenever I want. But that's limited by my commute. I'm averaging 1 GS per 3 months because anything greater is just an a$$ kicker and I am a slacker by nature. The position was awesome in the beginning, but now each month the Optimizer digs deeper - BOHICA. Commutability down and ultra long sandy beach layovers are rare. I'm out - low seniority WB A will be vastly superior. It will be less work, same money (at around ALV or RES guarantee), better layovers. But I won't knock NB A with seniority. You actually get some legs of flying in, which is my number 1 complaint about WB B. Especially with training churn and resultant OE/TOE, in full augment ops, good luck getting a leg! NB A also exposes you to relatively new hires (pilots and F/As) - all with great skills and stellar enthusiasm. NB A requires seniority and mad PBS/PCS skills to enhance your QOL and or earning capacity. The same skill set and seniority can get you into big bucks as a WB B, but low seniority and inept bidding brings a perfectly acceptable life balance. It's great to have choices.

73N won't become the new 88. Rotations will improve as the 20+ 717s remaining in storage are reactivated and returned to the line to fly some of the short routes the Lion Air 73s have been flying. I find the 73 trips to have far better variety and layover quality than the 717. 757s will continue to fly short flights. 320s will continue to fly short flights as well. Another Wildcard is the arrival of more 220-300s. Those will not be placed on short hops. It's going to be interesting to watch the network evolve over the next several years.

Maybe, but many of those routes already had 737's on them, and with those Lion Air birds flying around full or nearly full I don't see 717s taking on a large share of the current load. I think the remaining 717s will be used more to upguage current RJ routes than to downguage current 737 ones. I live in a city that gets a good number of ex-Lion Air planes coming in, and whatever flights they do used to be on 737-900's, not 717s.

On a related note, have there been any rumblings about opening another 717 base (most likely MSP)?

I can't disagree that the 717 is mostly insulated, and yes we did get thrown out with the bath water on the last contract. But to your last comment, "so much better" is the subjective part. Having done both, and being local, my "so much better" is as a NB A. That's a pretty broad brush to be using.

Haven't heard a peep, so it's probably in the works.

The Lion Air planes will be entering phase 2 Mods spon which which will remove the 500nm restriction. You make a good point about Lion Air jets being full. Good news is as more 321 NEOs arrive there will be more 757 spare capacity.
