He has no idea what he is even hoping for.
He is singularly focused on his anger over not getting a retirement plus up that was demographically impossible to ratify, and is ignoring all other facts related to this negotiating cycle.
Is he cheering on the notion that the company will come asking for concessions in the next round because this contract is just too rich?
Is he hoping for a downturn so junior “gets theirs” finally after they were protected from furlough during Covid?
Is he overcome with jealousy that junior will get the same benefit of seniority progression that he enjoyed for his whole career, while not being gifted yet another windfall he feels entitled to?
No one knows, not even him. He just knows he’s mad, and won’t be happy until you’re not happy, even though he has reached the pinnacle of available outcomes as a pilot at Delta. It’s never enough unless he gets a bigger share of the pie. It’s his right. Because, you know… reasons.
Cue the word out one-liner about the mean lady in RDU in 3…. 2…..1….

The cynicism from the older crowd comes from having seen this movie before. ALPA has told us from time immortal that this contract is bullet proof and that the company can't get around it without XXX... and all of the Xs, benefits the pilots
But now we apparently have the group that out negotiated Glen Hauenstein and company to the point that they walked in at 10 am when spooky lady laid down her threat, surrendered and made a 2pm flight back to mahogany row. I'll believe it when I see it, and I haven't seen **** as of yet. But I understand your optimism. I had it for a long time until my own union lied to me.

Just let it go James. You can only tell them so many times "Don't touch that, its hot". Children only learn when they finally get their little fingers burned. You, I and others; we've lived the lies, we've seen management drive dump trucks thru the holes in our contracts. We restored most of our concessions from bankruptcy contracts before they were potty trained - yet now we're the bad guys. Right. Whatever. Can't wait for their lamentations on softpay, it's gonna be all over these boards in about a year. PS - AMS sucks
-34% pay raise in a single contract cycle
-6-figure retro check
-Going from last to nearly first in vacation value
-An unprecedented DC contribution that the other airlines we pattern bargain with weren’t even trying to get
-A 135% increase to the FSP override
-An industry me-too that will actually provide a raise (when was the last time that happened?)
-Effectively paying overtime for duty beyond 10 hours, on every trip
-The best reserve rules in the industry
When was the last time you received ANY of the above list?
But… mean lady.
James, you’ll never admit it to yourself, but you just pocketed the biggest single gain to the value of your services that you’ve ever experienced. And you’re still not happy because the dump truck of cash didn’t put everyone else’s pile exclusively in your front yard.
You have no idea what my, or any others on this board’s background is. Or how long we’ve been in the same fight as you. Or how most of us only wish the best for all our fellow pilots, and we resent an unscrupulous Company who have perverted every deal they have ever made.
Yet you lick their boots for a coveted, quasi-management, once out-of-seniority, instructor job, and you hate your representation for what they didn’t give you, personally.
And I’m under no delusion that the company won’t be coming to claw some of it back in the future. I just hope my representation doesn’t cave to concessionary demands when that time comes. Just like they did during Covid… oh, wait.

Soooooo...about them A350-1000s. As of the latest NYC base visit they are still looking at it. My take: something very strategic is going on that will result in a very good deal for us, financially or they dont have a clue what they're doing.

We have more 321 CEO than all our top paying aircraft combined. The big announcement won't move the needle especially when you consider most if not all will be replacements.

I have no delusions about the size of our future wide body fleet; Im just talking specifically about the order being placed anytime soon; which is what this thread is supposed to be about. It got hijacked with insults. Ya know something that never happens on this site.

Yes, they’ll surely learn their lesson for settling. If only junior had held out for the big wins of old. Big wins like:
-34% pay raise in a single contract cycle
-6-figure retro check
-Going from last to nearly first in vacation value
-An unprecedented DC contribution that the other airlines we pattern bargain with weren’t even trying to get
-A 135% increase to the FSP override
