Question Wait time between OBS and OE on 320

Hello,

I was just wondering what can I expect as far as wait time between OBS and start of IOE. I've been scheduled for my OBS and supposed to be completed with that by July 10th, have couple days off following and the rest of my schedule follows with "NOE" which shows as training complete awaiting OE completion. I was just looking to see what I can expect following completion of my OBS flights. TIA

320 should not be longer than a couple weeks, but of course that is subject to change with how close they are to capacity atm. They'll put you in whatever base they can for OE.

does "NOE" mean that im actually on reserve and could be called out or would they change that to IOE once they have something scheduled for me and I would be notified of it well in advanced? Thanks for your response. I have somewhat of a difficult commute which would force me to have fly in a day prior to my reserve days so I just want to make sure I don't screw anything up.

I'm not sure on the particulars of what your responsibility is as a new hire while waiting for training (several people gave me varying answers). They scheduled it almost a week in advance for me and nobody in my class complained about last minute being asked to get to the airport either. They understand many of us commute and they have to pair you with an LCP so there's not much reason to give you short notice.

Gotchya, I appreciate your response. I just wanted to make sure I know my obligations prior to going into it and whether or not to commute over to DTW on my NOE days or if I can just be home and wait for something to pop up on my schedule. Is there some sort of rest requirement during this time? I've heard rumors of 30 hours prior call out but was not certain.

Basically NOE is long call reserve for OE, meaning that you are on the hook to be contacted by the company at any time for your OE assignment. Because you are on the hook you are not in rest, and FAR 117 requires before you start an FDP you must find a 30 hour rest break in the previous 168 hours. Since you are on days and days of “reserve” and not in rest the company has to notify you of your 30 hours rest, hence why they cannot make you report for IOE with less than 30 hours notice.

You’re on 30 hour callout for OE. You’ll probably be scheduled a week out. Nothing else on your schedule really matters until you are OE complete. Any LC (long call) on your schedule isn’t real until you’re done with OE. X days are also not real until you are done with OE, but they do count towards earning payback or banked payback days if you fly OE on them. If you have LC after your final OE trip, you’ll be on the hook for it. You need 25 hours so just look at the rotation they give you and see how many block hours you’re doing to figure out if you’ll need a second trip or not.

Finished 44x about a week ago, OBS 4 days after that. 1st OE trip starting in two days. 2nd OE trip scheduled 3 days after 1st one finishes.

Also, if OE scheduling calls you and “offers” you OE at a different base, understand that means you are on your own to get there (company business, jump seat, etc). They won’t deadhead you there. Heard of some people being burned by that “offer” thinking it meant they’d be positive space deadheaded there. You can decline such an offer if you so choose.
