You know a lot of people who choose to move because of a temporary LOA with a hard end date during a unprecedented time in this industry?

I’ve been using a backup most of the time anyways during this PSC period because frankly I just don’t trust our operation like I used to. The flights used to go like clockwork and it seems operational performance has taken a backseat to a myriad of other issues. So the only change I see in my particular situation with PSC going away is having to sit in a JS or middle seat going to work rather than an aisle seat. For that, I’m not sure how much, if any, negotiating capital should be spent on retaining PSC. I’d rather the FAs fight the fight and ride their coattails.

ding ding ding…I had a chat with someone in the CPO this past week and with the recent on time reliability issues, they are seeing an uptick in pilots not showing up at report due to their one missed/late PS commute. They also said they fully expect the policy to expire in October for all employees…

Having said that, I still think there is a deal that could be made on PS - despite their public pronouncements. But I add to those calling for no capital to be expended on it.

I think you and Sailing are perhaps talking about two different things. He was (I think) talking about guys who didn't book a backup flight before PSC, when it was clearly required. 10 years ago we had a jump seater doing that, and we almost had to divert to HSV due to thunderstorms. Luckily we didn't have to divert and he called scheduling (pre miCrew) as soon as we landed to sign in 5 minutes late. He was going to Europe! He plainly stated that he just didn't like the backup requirement because it took too much time out of his day, so he didn't do it. THAT'S irresponsible commuting.
However that same pilot booking PS per our current LOA would be within the letter and spirit of the agreement. It all has to do with abiding by the rules in place.

They do have a penchant for pointing out the actions of the < 1% that "ruin it for us all..." A few years back, a particular someone had a crusade against the mil pilots for the same < 1%. It's a trend item...

In the end commuting is simple. You should feel a obligation to show up for work. If the weather is forecast to suck you go sooner. If it’s nice you go later. If loads are high you go sooner. If loads are good you go later. You should also show up rested. Starting at 3AM to commute for a 5 pm departure to Moscow is not smart,
