Some flight attendants are being more assertive. I mean it appears they are tossing passengers off without even consulting the Captain.

Not sure what they are being trained these days but it's gotten way worse than it used to be. Lot of unilateral actions coming from that group nowadays.

Not making an excuse for anyone but I effed this up once. FAs say everyone is hot so I say OK and start the APU. It comes on line and I swap the electrics and start the timer for the bleed and packs. We push back and the timer say 26 and the APU bleed is off along with the packs. Oops, sorry... got distracted by a NOTOC and a jumpseater. Obviously we were comfortable or things would have been different.

My theory: It is a 757 thing. The 757 has enough ventilation that the cockpit remains comfortable. After all, it was designed for Eastern Airlines union members to smoke cigarettes.
In contrast, the A320 apparently has lighting and computer chips that are also used in New York to make the perfect pizza crust. Without air blowing the heat the other direction, the Airbus flight deck instantly goes to 100F or more. The only place this doesn't happen is MSP in February, which must be the reason Northwest bought these things and Delta bought 757's.

Pretty typical ATL behavior I've seen over the years

there’s some really great ones out there but there’s unfortunately a lot of not so great ones. Had a captain write up a FA crew who refused to provide service and proceeded to sit in their jumps on their phone for an entire SEA-JFK flight while I was DHing. Also caught a few galley captains in the act of escalating situations threatening to kick a couple off for differences in political views out of LGA. It’s gotta be rooted in the training department because all of the sudden they seem to feel they’re the ones deemed PIC. Not loving this look for DL.

I spent more than a decade on that fleet. When you have multiple FAs dinging the cockpit and the "A" personally asking you nicely at least twice to get some air on and then you have that tool sitting there because he's gonna turn it on when he's dang ready

Re: the 7ER and AC, it’s easy to forget after being asked. The cabin temp gauges are notoriously unreliable, so we honestly have no clue unless told (You can make reasonable guesses during the summer)
I try and remember to start the APU when boarding starts, but after it comes online, it’s easy to forget to disconnect the ground power and set up the bleed panel to turn on the air. You can’t hear it, there isn’t a obvious light telling you it’s on, there’s no indication on the EICAS display (unless you have the status page up), etc.
Point is, I haven’t flown with a single captain from any base on either of the fleets I’ve been on who’ve intentially not started the APU for air if the cabin is hot.
