When Delta had a lot of two man flights we certainly practiced a form of controlled rest. It's not a easy thing to do between high demand times, radios, meal services, bathroom breaks, message alerts and the usual problems from the back.

Thank goodness for the power of Unions in the USA, let alone safety. Seems like carriers outside of the USA are in a race to the bottom. Crews are already paid well less then US counterparts then companies extracting more savings having these poor folks fly 2 man across the Atlantic

I will always take the chance to suggest everybody takes a look at ALPA PAC, and considers either joining or slightly upping their contributions.

Controlled rest is not the mechanism that allows them to fly to the eastern US. ICAO rest rules allow it. In fact so does FAR117. We just have a strong enough union to have it encoded in the contract. Controlled rest is great though. Had it in a previous life.

ADG offers some disincentive to 4 day trips. But 117 is the driver to a lot of our 3 man flying out of NYC- British isles/Northern Europe and back.
