Great...you disagree with them...Now what?

BTW...What are inappropriate reasons? (since you are not promoting it, I need to know what they are before advising/discussing it with my pilot kids)
My version of an “inappropriate reason” is not having a reason to call out sick that is health related. That’s a really wide net of appropriate reasons because mental health is real.

We can agree that "promptly availabe is not sitting short call in Honolulu when your domicile is DTW...or can we?

Furrowed brows don't need defining as they won't get you discipline/time off. Nice inappropriate straw man, but good effort. :> This is kinda difficult isn't it? Must be, since nobody wants to take a stab at what constitutes abuse.

Or, is sick leave abuse like the Supreme Court's Justice Stewart's quote regarding obscenity, can't really define it but...."I know it when I see it"

There's several options...but what you shouldn't do is just call in sick without ever even telling the company anything. I would think that much is obvious.

Yea, I hear ya. Little Johnny, in T-ball, unexpectdly makes it to the championship tournment game.

My mental health demands that I be there because, as I professional pilot, I am unable to compartmentalize. Mental health is indeed real. So is precious family time.

Don't take it personally...this is all in good fun because 20 pages ago some refused to admit that sick leave can be, and is, abused. And it's not just insignificant dribs and drabs. But, then again, I guess it depends on what the definition of abuse is, doesn't it?

Nope, not obvious. The aformentioned spousal hospitalization with resultant pay loss taught me a valuable lesson.

I appluade all who have more integrity than I.

Peace, out.

Looking for a little insight on what to expect with the flying for next month. In April, the ALV for my category shot up to 81:00 and there was a ton of coverage awards, far more than I have seen in the last 9 months. But we got the extra X day for reserves and enhanced vacation slide. For May, the ALV dropped down to 75:30, but no extra X day. I may be misunderstanding the implications of the x day. Just trying to figure out if I can expect less coverage in May, given the lower ALV? All I really want is to get memorial day weekend off (well I would really like the last 10 days of the month off, but I have my APD in my back pocket if I get a trip outside the APD exclusion zone), here is hoping the addition of holiday pay helps me out!

We can. We can also agree calling out sick while perfectly healthy to do hookers and blow in Vegas is sick leave abuse.

Now that that’s out of the way…. What the heck are you trying to accomplish here? Are you advocating for something or just trying to stir the pot? You are always welcome here but this isn’t imparting wisdom, it’s just yelling at clouds. It serves no benefit to the Delta pilot group.

If your answer is just “I’m retired and bored AF so I’m gonna go post 5 or 6 times with a “parade of horribles” logic train on sick leave abuse because I have nothing else to do that’s fine, it’s just a little odd.
