So, you familiar with the history of sick leave as it pertains to the 2 carriers prior to the merger?
That situation sounds very stressful. Mental health is a hot topic in many of the company comms I receive.

It’s wild that we have seasoned pilots that don’t know what IM SAFE means.

This ^^^^. Also why the heck are we even talking about what constitutes sick leave abuse? What possible benefit does that confer on us as a pilot group?

Let’s try and define “promptly available” and “furrowed brow” to the nth detail while we’re at it

All you would have to do is clear it with the chief pilot's office or pilot assist. DuH!

So you’re okay with having to drop rotations for no pay to care for ill family members?

ATL is a choice. Bid to a base with state sick leave.

What Buck isn hoping you’ll look into, is NWA had a system with an accumulated bank. Pilots saved a lot of hours only to have them vanish. Those pilots might feel quite happy about using their sick hours prior to losing them.

Disclaimer that I’m not promoting sick usage for inappropriate reasons.

Yea, Im familiar with IM SAFE Gspeed, thanks for playing.

Yes, years ago before IM SAFE, that's exactly what the chief pilot did....dropped the trip with no pay. It was at the end of the month so no redress available for pay....lesson learned. I'm under no delusions about the Delta Family, as that was 30+ years ago.

That was easy...let's try another..."Shall we play a game ?"

You are pretty senior in BES but you want to chase the money so you knowlingly bid a higher paying BES with a subsequent BES seniority hit. Your out of town sibling, whom you haven't seen for 2 years, calls and says he'll be in town for a business meeting on Friday morning but is availabe to play golf that afternoon. You try to bid that day off but don't get it off. You try to swap that reserve day/trip and/or PD drop it,but to no avail because of "manning".

Do you call in sick? Would that be sick leave abuse? I mean, after all, it is Delta's fault because they don't man the airline properly, right?

What if you saw that out of town sibling last month? Abuse or not?

Looking forward to the opinions.....be ready, I have more "what if's" ...the questions get more slippery, so please don't try to insult my intelligence.

That is exactly what I want them to look into. There is a diffrence between a sick leave accrual system and a use it or lose it system and the ramifications WRT sick leave abuse and GFB calls. That logic seems to escape many here.

BTW...What are inappropriate reasons? (since you are not promoting it, I need to know what they are before advising/discussing it with my pilot kids)

Just so I'm clear, what I'm not OK with is abusing sick leave. I've said nothing about trip drops. If that's what Delta told you in this exact circumstance, then I would disagree with them.
