lolz……much like any wing/squadron. 20% of the O-5s and above are good dudes with their people put first…..the other 80% are exactly what you think they are.
The ratio goes down as the ranks go up

with CS covering trips 2 days out, there are going to be way more sick calls after being assigned a trip. I can’t imagine anyone calling out sick 2.5 or 3 days in advance. If the company is going to continue with their current list of triggers, the GFB calls are going to increase. I had this happen recently, and the CP was in agreement, but said the company policy hasn’t changed. When I explained my timing for the sick call, they cleared me with no dr note required (but still doesn’t count for the verification lookback).

There are ways to flatten the spikes, but the company isn’t interested in them. One would be to eliminate APD holidays, thereby reducing the limits on swapping around holidays that lead to some pilots abusing sick. The other would be to expand holiday pay to more holidays, as well as increasing the incentive beyond 5:15 for a single day.
So Delta pilots need to be bribed to go to work? That by the way is exactly how the company views it.

Over holidays, yes. What’s weird about that?

That’s the kind of nonsense that only drives sick call numbers up. Rather than waiting until the night before / morning of the trip to see if the illness goes away, more pilots will simply bang out sick early to avoid the hassle.

Similarly, once a sick call is GFB’ed by the company, that entire sick call is considered verified regardless of how long the pilot stays out sick. In that sense, GFB incentivizes many pilots to use MORE sick hours, not less.

Look at any other airline, or any other industry for that matter. Sick calls spike around the holidays everywhere. It’s part of doing business.

Businesses can either choose to absorb the cost, or create incentives that actually reduce abuse.

It was in black and white that around those dates, there was statistically significant abuse going on. The Takeaway I had was that the company had a point. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy, and we have to wear diapers because a few abusers crapped their pants.
I've also heard that sick calls go up in May as people use up some of their balance before their sick time resets. I'm sure some of it is people scheduling/planning procedures but I have no doubt that there are a few out there with a use-it-or-lose-it mentality.

FIFY

You are still a piece of work management shill, I have no idea why I expected that to change after you were gone.

I try and explain why management does not like something and that makes me a shill. Do you disagree with the post?

You continually leave out facts in your perspective like, EVERY OTHER EMPLOYEE of the company is OFF or INCENTIVISED TO WORK on 10 holidays a year. Yet pilots are forbidden from even requesting those days and several days surrounding them off.

We know how managers tasked to manage costs and productivity for ANY company view things, the push back is the consequence. Yet, you refuse to point out the flawed management perspective, double standards, and unwarranted punitive actions. You are consistently one side and defend impropriety and ineptitude.

And yes, shill is an apt term to describe what you do here.
