Turo is Airbnb for rental cars and all of the same positives and negatives of Airbnb vs a traditional hotel apply.
With a regular rental you pay more but it's a known quantity. The last Turo rental I did the car showed up almost 2 hours late (was dropped off by the owner), the a/c didn't work, and we had to put air in the tires. These issues made us lose confidence in the car (we were traveling on rural roads in a foreign country).
On the flip side, the owner dropped off the car at our hotel in the middle of a large city and even with the hidden required insurance you have to buy it was significantly cheaper than a traditional rental. It also allowed us to rent exactly the car we needed.
I think Turo is much better suited to 'pleasure/luxury/speciality' rentals where dependability is not important.

I had a Turo rental where the car owner asked me to change the drop point to 30 miles away, with an hour notice. Naturally, that didn't happen and I got charged a fee. Never again bothering with Turo. Rental cars are easy - pick up, drop off. If the car is wrong, you can fight with the rental company. Much easier.
After some bad recent Airbnb experiences I realized these platforms have two sets of customers: you the renter, and them the landlord. As a renter you are at most an occasional customer and if you have a bad experience well tough luck. The landlord is a longterm repeat customer (that makes them a lot more money than you do) and so they have much more incentive to keep them happy.

Hah! You got charged a fee?! That's messed up and sorry that happened.

Yeah, I’ve been moving away from Airbnb too. I used it a lot for a couple of years and thought it was great. I haven’t had a really bad experience yet, but I feel it in my bones that a shoe is about to drop. Now I’ll only book one on the fly with short notice, like non-revving and just got cleared. But if I need a guaranteed place to stay in 6 months, I’ll definitely go with a hotel. I don’t need an Airbnb owner cancelling the reservation on me last minute.
Our situation had more to do with a host misrepresenting a property and Airbnb automatically siding with the host. We provided pictures and a narrative about what happened and got zero support from Airbnb. And based on the responses we got from Airbnb (poorly written copy & pastes) it was obvious they never even bothered to read or look at anything we sent them. Airbnb just stonewalled us and honestly there wasn't much we could do about it. We filed BBB and state attorney complaints but those just make them look bad. Your only option is a chargeback with the CC.
And don't get me wrong, we've used Airbnb for over 10 years and had some really great experiences, and most hosts are really good. About 5-6 years ago we had a host majorly screw something up and Airbnb was much more receptive and we got a partial refund.
