That wasn't the argument. The arguement being made was, "us pilots are pull yourself by your bootstraps kind of people and are better with money than everyone else (paraphrased).". And I'm saying that in actuality, we are no better but I'd argue even worse than other careers with this level of pay.

They are also more than an average number who are actually worried about the Estate Tax that starts at more than $12 million. If I were in line to get that kind of a tax free windfall I'd be pulling a new Sk-boat to my lake house behind a stupid-duty 350 with my wife following behind in her Tesla M X.

OK, settle down JD…..taking a couple guys and playing smartest guy in the room does nothing for your own credibility.

I'm not claiming to be outstanding. I'm saying that we we aren't as amazing as we make in our own minds.

Lets just say now, the retro since amenable works out to 12% of 1 years pay (3, 3, 4%)

Median W2 of 200k, 24k x the 15,000 or so is about $360M

Every month the retro goes up. As do the likely to vote for a say 40k signing bonus over retro.

Because they ARE tracking how much retro will cost vs a one time bonus x how many are here.

At some point it will make more financial sense (from the company's viewpoint) to offer a signing bonus that puts more money in the pockets of those here, but costs them less than paying retro to those here plus all who worked past amenable date.
There is literally no one in the GO counting anything. Other than that you’re correct.

$24 million if married. Look up South Dakota dynasty trust for more ideas. As a cost saving measure, I'd recommend ditching the F350/MX combo in favor of a Tesla Cybertruck. If you really need to burn through the Benjamins, consider something red from Italy.

I would be interested to know what % of our pilot group puts at least 5% into their 401k
I put ZERO. Company is already putting in 16%. Plenty of tax efficient ways to invest outside of the 401k that doesn't require you to lock your money up for 20+ years. Too many folks in this nation are "Rich" on paper but cash poor/living paycheck to paycheck, ie majority of networth tied up in highly illiquid assets like their Primary Residence and 401k.

I’ll admit in retrospect my using this was a bad way to make my point. But I still think the original point, that pilots as a whole are not bootstrap savers, is accurate. Some are and some are not, but I don’t think we are wildly better than average.
