...because GS were far less common and staffing was adequate or nearly so. The monster we created was from ARCOS. Now GSs are and everyday schedule tool, that inversely means that staffing is far worse.

It was also highly inefficient and costly to the company. Which is why we should have increased (but not eliminated) batch sizes for a hefty price.

I do agree that a batch size of 1 handcuffed almost as many pilots as unlimited batch sizes. Both extremes limit opportunities. That said, I’m a commuter, nowhere near 5% or even 15%, and have done plenty of green slips under both systems.

The right solution was a batch size somewhere in the middle (i.e. 15-20), only after receiving a hefty quid.

And we had even LESS time to respond. Usually it was a voicemail because you'd never answer a call from scheduling. By the time you listened to the voice mail (which said "hey you have a gs, if we don't hear back in ten minutes we're moving on"), logged into icrew and looked at the trip, your time was pretty much up.

Now you immediately get to look at the trip and have two 12 minute periods to decide if you really want it. It's WAY better this way.

You don't have time to think - "You think - your Dead." Or being a little less dramatic - you lose your GS.

Next time I go to CQ and get a windshear or gust front, I'ma gonna ask for 15 minutes to gather information and CRM all parties involved.

If you guys can argue inane, minutia green slip BS, so can I . Mine is just as relevant, except mine is tongue in cheek, unfortunately some of you seem seriously butt hurt.

JFC...plan ahead. Most don't want to hear your drama, and you really don't want any input as to how to ameliorate this "brave new world". with possible strategies. You are too busy living in the past.

Kinda a troll post by me, but not really.

If ARCOS calls, I know how long of a trip I can accept when the phone rings. It’s whether or not I want to fly the trip is what takes me 10 min to decide.

The batch size wouldn't be an issue if the company better staffed the airline... So they create the issue by severely understaffing, then cry wolf over coverage times/23m7, then we fix the issue for them with mostly small gains. All the while we sit here still severely understaffed. Yay batch size "win."

Maybe just for ACE reports due to coverage issues, but as a whole, no it is not getting caught up...in fact there has actually been a massive increase in ACE reports overall....more than 100 per day are coming in as of end of September.
