Well again it's not moot for reserve pilots since they can be assigned tag on flying. It is also very relevant for BOTH regular and reserve pilots when it comes to getting reroutes mid-rotation when scheduling attempts to add more flying after a leg when you think you are headed to the layover or a DH. With FAR 117 when you block in on your last operating leg and you have no further expectation of flying your FDP ends immediately. Even if your "duty" period continues with a DH, you are done operating any legs even if they later want you to operate that DH because your FDP ended and you need 10 hours before starting another FDP.
A reserve pilot can be assigned tag on flying at any point before the TOD on their last operating leg. Once on the descent if a reroute for tag on flying comes through it starts to get muddied. A pilot can choose to acknowledge the reroute but you can also say that you are not able to respond to any company contact during critical phases of flight. Once a reserve blocks in on the last leg with no further expectation to fly scheduling cannot use the pre-release schedule check to assign tag on flying. That schedule check is only to determine an immediate rest assignment, or a trip or SC assignment reporting at least 18 hours after the release from the current trip.

That wasn’t how you said it, but sure. You said you called to tell them you put in a slip for a trip.

I’ve heard that some pilots were able to successfully change their schedule 0-2 days prior to sign-in by picking up or swapping with a 0xxx series trip that otherwise would go to a reserve pilot. Those 0xxx series trips were occasionally more desirable for the pilot than his originally assigned rotation.
