Agree, there is no one size fits all solution to any emergency.

Thats fine. It’s a judgement call, which we have all trained for for years, decades actually. In the absence of an obviously poor decision, I think it’s extremely poor form to armchair quarterback a judgement call. None of us were there, and I will always give the benefit of the doubt to the Captain who was.

Ever evacuated an airliner?

I have.

While the discussion is a worthwhile one to have, second guessing a decision is not.

that’s awesome, what a seriously motivated guy, glad to see his work paid off for him. Putting his backside on the line for helping form a union too, hopefully he gets involved with DALPA down the line.

I’m not super up to date with breeze so I’m going off what I assume, so breeze is alpa now? That is great! Strength in numbers baby I’m hoping AA can come over to ALPA

You can’t argue the decision to evacuate. What is more interesting is what led to the evacuation. Hopefully Delta will put out a full accounting.

We are having a constructive discussion about a generic brake fire, not the 757 event. No one is 2nd guessing that crew. What many are questioning is another poster's decision to evacuate as soon as he hears fire from ATC without accessing the situation any further.

I'll ask again, do we have any case studies where an airliner was engulfed in flames within 3 minutes from a brake fire?

After every abnormal I 2nd guess myself. I replay the situation and think of lessons learned and what I could have done better. Every professional aviator is always learning. That's why constructive discussions like this is great

Almost identical to the Delta Salt Lake City incident. Why on earth would you listen to a guy telling you to stay in a burning airplane after he tells you he is having difficulty containing the fire. I don’t care what tone is used. I’m evacuating, the only advice I’d listen to is which exits are passable. What is a “simple brake fire” and how do you know? A trained observer from a distance is seeing flames come from your aircraft. Why are you waiting? If it’s because you were told to, what reason did they have for wanting you to wait?

I’m curious when and how you know if/when simple becomes something not simple.
