It gets even more costly for trips that can’t be split or are longer than 6 days as often a GS is the only option. At UAL they simply slide your off days and give you the intact 6 day or longer trip.
Let’s not even get into the discussion of airport standby for reserves at UAL. Can you imagine if Delta asked for that in the contract?
an interesting thought WRT airport standby. Many commuters already fly in and sit around at the airport for their SC period (at least I do). If the company offered an incentive for SC pilots to voluntarily place themselves on airport standby , (maybe in exchange for 5 hours instead of 9 and an more credit toward/above guarantee) that might be a win/win. Also since reroutes seem to be a sore subject here, having airport reserve would (probably) significantly cut down on reroutes.

im definitely not saying we need to rush to give up no airport reserve, but there may be reasons to consider it.

Even if it is only a choice selected by the pilot(at the pilots choosing, not assignable by the company) and was incentivized?

You and I both know that the “fully optional and always a benefit to the crewmember and never a negative to anyone” implementation is a pipe dream. Keep that camel’s nose out of my tent.

but sure, I guess if you can get the company to give you a bunch of pay for something they don’t really need with absolutely no downsides, go for it.

Or maybe something like their reduced SC callout incentive. (All voluntary)

their SC callout is 2.5 hrs

if you can make a callout less than 2.5 but greater than 1.5 hrs you get (I think 2) hours extra

if you can make a callout less than 1.5 hours but no less than 30 mins, you get (I think) 5 hrs extra

Absolutely no to publishing a SC time. Also, I can’t wait for the first San Diego or Philly commuter doing 95 on a freeway to slide in for 5 extra hours to get in an accident.

Either way, let the company establish a need and see what they’ll pay for in negotiations

Oh, sorry. When you said "ABSOLUTELY NO" you were using a different dictionary to define what "absolutely" means?

Cool, we just make up words where the meaning is opaque.

This is not nit-picking some typo....it is tough to discuss ideas and concepts when you have your own dictionary.

ignore the 2.5, I should have been more clear but my point was allow other reduced times maybe an extra incentive if you can make a 1 hour or 30 min callout.

The reason for these thoughts is I'm guessing the company would seek reserve improvements like this if we seriously want to fix reroute issues.

Reserve improvements would certainly reduce reroutes. The two go hand in hand. The problem is the Company will probably reject any voluntary options. How many pilots will hold their hand up for airport standby XMas morning?

I don't know, how many? Jewish? Agnostic? Athesist? Muslim? Single? No family? No plans for the holiday? On call anyway? Weather rearing it's ugly head? Commuter? Get extra hours/pay/some incentive? Company wants it for isolated circumstances?

Is it possible to come up with a win win that is voluntary?

I think it could be a possibility
