Is it automatic or is there some approval needed?

Basically I am looking for some feedback from folks who have done this and looking for any pointers or possible issues to avoid.

Default PBS Question

If I sort through the bid package and identify 50-ish pairings that I wouldn’t mind flying, how do I structure my bid to tell the system to build me a schedule from only those pairings?

Use Award Pairing Number, Departing On, Ordered YES

Award trip XXXX departing On Mar XX, followed by…Award trip YYYY departing On Mar YY, followed by etc.

Put the pairings in the order you want, all 1 line. Put that line ahead of all your other avoids and awards.

If you truly don't care which one of the 50 you get, then you could simply just click the plus sign at the top, then click the check box beside the line that shows all your filters (a banner just above the first pairing) then click the award button. I think PBS will allow you to add a line with up to 7 "if statements." Otherwise, I'd just add all the filters line-by-line, in the hierarchy you prefer.

The only lines that PBS reads from left to right are prefer off and pairings departing on (Ordered).

The easiest way is to sort the trips you want in the pairings tab and select them one at a time to add to the bid, you can go back to the bid tab and move them around later.

I’ll try this method. Thanks.

Make a separate bid group with all 50 trips listed. Then clear Sked start next.
2nd bid group. List all 50 trips again plus all other stuff if you can’t get enough trips from the 50 to make a legal line.

This might be better. I had a question about using the clear schedule instruction. Will PBS try to shuffle all 50 trips in order to build a valid schedule or will it go through the listed trips, award them if available, and reach the end and jump to the next bid group. For example, If I list the trips by length…5, 4 3 2 1; and PBS awards two five day trips. Then it gets to the 4-day trips, but those would all exceed the LCW when added to the two 5-day trips. Then there are no trips available of 3 days or less. Before PBS executes the clear schedule instruction, will it circle back and try to award only one of the five day trips plus two 4-day trips to get in the LCW or jump to the next bid group?

As a REG if I pick up a spill trip off the swap board will it drop a conflicting trip in the next bid period with no pay like a WS or will the pickup get denied?
