You keep repeating this but it is not true.

Yeah. I'd really like to see a source on this. I find it really hard to believe. I said it once before on another reply to Sailing, but if before age 60 the average retirement age (just picking a number) was 58, then that would mean after age 65 passed it only went to just over 60 years old?

Just based on how many over 60 pilots I've flown with and how many pilots we mandatorily retire each year I don't see how that could possibly be true.

Well what is true? At one of the company roadshows that is exactly what they stated. I mean apply a little common sense and think about it. One of the old rules of thumb was always half the pilots would not make it to age 60. A few fired, a bunch medicaled out and others leaving early. So at 60 you are down to half gone. From 60 to 62 the company has seen a high attrition rate on top of the pre 60 losses. The strange part and what I don’t understand is from 63 to 65 the attrition rate was very low which is not what I expected. All of this is pre MOAD which should have reduced that 2.4 years even more and was a huge seniority boost for the bottom half of the list.

The average should mean nothing here. Mean and median would be more telling. Don’t suppose you have those, sailing?

Ummm, isn’t the mean the same as average? Did you mean mode and median?

my guess is that you heard “the average retirement is 62.4” and misunderstood that to mean a 2.4 year increase, rather than knowing the average retirement age before 65 went into effect

average is going to be pretty good here, since there aren’t huge outliers retiring at 34 or 97 skewing numbers.
