Negotiations are done via term sheets. We exchange term sheets and each side takes time to review them and run them by their experts. In our case we have both pilots and attorneys going over items plus the E&FA team costing them out. Meeting every other week is a fast pace and allows for due diligence. There is no one at a big round table pounding out a contract.
Tempo is unsat in my book. They could get it done faster if they really wanted to.
“I know that reaching an agreement is the most important thing to you, and we will keep pushing hard to get there…” sounds very artificial.

I get all that. Your therapy always appreciated!

I guess someone finally got through to him that we are sick and tired of the phrase 'Thank you for all you do'... Oh, wait, That's exactly what the above sentence says...

According to a letter put out by our union this week you should probably not expect a deal anytime soon. They say that the company comes to the negotiating sessions “poorly prepared, propose unreasonable positions, and seem confused about what constitutes good-faith bargaining.”
All while JL says he wants a deal done quickly. At least they secretly gave themselves bonuses of $250,000. I hope they all sleep well.

American Airlines says it will hike pay for 14,000 pilots even higher than originally proposed, as the industry faces a crippling labor shortage.

Unfortunately I think you’re correct.
During the RA days people used to say the company was paying chess and ALPA was playing checkers.
Now I fear that ALPA is playing checkers but the company is playing Tic-Tac-Toe and they’re too busy eating all the crayons.
Everything since late 2018 has seemed woefully shortsighted and execution has been with minimal to no planning. I remember pre-COVID that the ALPA NC was pretty much spending time teaching the contract to the company negotiators instead of actually negotiating. Such a shame.
