The pay protection is automatic. I don't train for my AE award until the end of February, but someone junior to me converted November 1st. I saw my first increased paycheck on November 30th without doing anything. Supposedly they do an audit around the 15th of every month and determine who is entitled to pay protection.

I fall into this category. Awarded a position on April 2021 365 day AE, and have yet to be assigned training. Projected training was Jan…but crickets so far. Several pilots junior to me are in and completing training this month, and are converting Jan 31.
I don’t know about length of training…I assume that getting paid when a junior pilot converts with similar training is when PWA 22 E 9 is in effect which would mean I am pay protected as junior pilot on same AE with same training requirements who converts before I do.
There are several people in this boat right now being held back from training who are currently NY73a, awarded ny7erA but are being held back in category I presume because of ny73a staffing shortages. (Goggles Pisano are you with me?)
My only real question is will the pay protection for us be automatic, or do I need to send some emails and shake the tree a bit for them to recognize it?
Anyone have any previous experience with this please chime in!

I haven't had it happen to me, but I have heard it's automatic.

I think if they could go back in time they would do almost everything different. Except for their one time correction payments. Well maybe they would raise them...

I understand that, I'm not talking buying new ones, just using the ones we have. Even with a few that will forever be can birds, we still have like 20-30 that we're not using. I understand there is more to it wrt to engine/mx costs, but it's an option.

thats fair, and I hope we get as many back as is feasible, the problem then becomes once we are out of 717s, our only seemingly viable option in the 110 seat market becomes the A220. Which means if marketing wants a 110 seater on a route, it will probably be an A220. The idea that just because a plane is optimized for longer legs, that it won’t be used on short ones just does not make a whole lotta sense. (That last sentence is not geared at you, just the idea in general)

Now you’re talking. Although, I think the ARJ21 would fill in for the 717 and curry favor with the Chinese government. After all we do need to make our China Eastern investment payoff. What could go wrong with a plane designed my Douglas in the 60’s, improved by Boeing in the 90’s and finally perfected by the Chinese in the 10’s
