Im projected to go to training in February, what kind of heads up does delta give for training? Will I get my training award before I bid for February (assuming I go in February)?

They've already started cancelling flights for lack of pilots. They couldn't get a captain in base for my trip today, so they just cancelled the first two legs and made it an ATL trip. Short on Captains in my fleet, yet those of us holding AEs for the seat (in fairly well staffed categories) continue to wait for training while they let sims sit mostly idle earlier this spring. That certainly isn't the pilots fault.
Min they can give you is 14 or 15 days, anything inside of that is a proffer and yes it could be after you bid for Feb. Based on the way they've handled training lately, I'm not expecting much of a heada up. They're forgetting to even schedule dudes for CQ in their must go month.

It's in the PWA under training - 11.F.2. If you have training in February, the Company will most likely post your training on your PBS schedule (which generates an iCrew pop-up as well) prior to Jan 4th at 18:00L. If they don't post it by then, you get to bid for February like you normally would with the caveat that the Company can still award you February training (within the parameters of 11.F.2) but the Company will have to drop any touching trips and pay you the greater of the value of trips dropped or training pay. The optimal situation is to have the company post training after the 4th at 18:00L but before the 11th at 18:00L. In that case, you will know when training is and can bid for the highest time trips that touch training regardless of commutability and #of legs/destinations because they would be awarded for pay purposes and then drop back off your line, just like a shadow period award

Your reading comprehension failed you because you obviously missed it when I wrote "Maybe on the business side since we are actually making a small profit in Q4, but on the pilot side of the house, I'm going to have to disagree."
This right here!
Mgmt saying we need to hire 200 a month like yesterday and not being able to do it after a 5 month ramp up....blasting text messages begging pilots to submit slip requests reeks of desperation....press releases claiming "possible operational disruption" ("possible" my a$$) due to omicron....yeah, because those disruptions couldn't possible be caused by not having enough pilots in the right place to fly network master plans.
If summer of 2019 was run "a little hot", this summer is going to be like having a picnic on the top of Mt Vesuvius.

They have certainly made some bad moves like the big displacement bid and the colossal blunder the early retirement program turned out to be. In the end however Delta has ran a better airline by a big margin than our competitors. The only really negative event was last Easter caused by a very generous covid program with no restrictions. They have managed this working with a very complex contract from staffing and reserve point of view and the most dynamic flight scheduling in possibly the history of the industry.

From a CEO and bean counter POV we are far superior. But like I said, we are a mess and only greedy pilots are saving the airline. Is it normal for the WB fleets to zero reserves available in the winter months?

Just looked at my category and it's not ATL or NYC. We are supposedly one of the better staffed bases. No blue days at all for the foreseeable future. As we are scheduled for the remainder of DEC and all of JAN we have no flexibility and I have never seen 0 blue days in January before. During the month a few weekends maybe, but this is a week plus out. I would have to agree that we are not staffed properly and it will be some time before we are. However, all things considered, management did their job managing through the last 2 years and we are now profitable. That gives me no solace about my work life though, when they do their job my job gets more difficult. Use the fatigue and sick (from burnout pre-trip) as necessary, these are our protections and are there for a reason.
