Sadly, this is how it plays out time after time. Delta hires good people who assume they will be treated as they treat others. Thence: reality.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I hope it works out against all odds.

When I actually got a hold of someone in Training Planning they claimed I hadn't and so they said my vacation will be liquidated.

Sidenote for anyone wondering if Training Planning will 'work with you' if you have a major life event (like I was told by CPO) they absolutely will NOT lift a finger and do not care one bit. And I'm not talking special deals or anything outside the PWA which I would never want. Just basic understanding or even 'we can't promise anything but we'll try and work something out' instead it's, 'we don't care.' I guess I should have just never had anything going on in my life and never bid on an AE.

Also have had this happen...twice. Fun stuff.

If you have a major life event, call out. End. Sort out the semantics later. Don't come to work AFU, that's how we got into this whole staffing issue to begin with.

Call Contract Administration at the ALPA office. They can research this for you.

There is a process for life issues. It’s handled by the fleet captains or CP’s office. Don’t waste time with crew resources,

Wow, I am really sorry to hear that that happened to you. Thanks, I will try the CTC avenue.

Again...just wow. What a great way to build a strong team.

I did call and they were not that helpful. They basically said that's just how the PWA is written, we have no recourse and it's compliant. We'll just have to get that in the next PWA.

On second reading, if you mean my original question about the vacation, I will ask them and see if they know anything, thanks.

CPO is just as useless with this. They are just the first line telling you “sorry, nothing can be done.”

With one notable exception I have not found this to be the case. They do I suspect look at work records before making decisions and if available self help was used. I flew with a pilot once who was angry they refused to drop a drip for his daughters graduation. I knew he was a very senior copilot so asked why he did not just bid it off. He said he had other priorities that month (Cabo fishing trip was one) and felt there was no need to bid it off as the company should drop the trip.
