But half of what you would have received if you had exercised a little thought and patience. They are out of reserves and other pilots are getting GS 2, 3, 4 etc. But some guys just don’t get it.

Now I don’t mean you personally DWC, I don’t know you or your category. General statement.

The WS or PSB of a Q trip = day off for some lucky pilot. Greedy WS pilots can help QOL.

I get this. I'm a big QOL proponent. But its often overlooked that GS's can be used not just for the money but for added QOL.

The best QOL I've had was junior reserve when GS's were flowing. Rolling Thunder (modified to my specifications...I declined many) and a bank full of PB days can often be achieved with as little as 1 month of hustle. After which you can do less than you'd do anyway, get paid a lot more and get similar or even MORE time at home for the rest of the year.

As a line holder, every day of GS is 2 days you can drop and not lose any pay. Or drop 1 for 1 and still come out on top for pay.

You can also pick up a GS in one month and fly fewer days in a following month. Big QOL boost.

That only works if the GS calls are on days you're not working... which if you're junior, is often the weekend. And weekends tend to be when the GS go out so... not available for you, even though you might want them. Oh, and you can't swap easily because of well, the same staffing problem that's bringing the GS. There's a reason the #2, #3 and #4 GS seem to always hit the senior pilots, it's not lack of desire by the junior pilots.

Why others decide to WS vs GS is a little thing I like to call noneyo business.

Reasonably certain that one can build a one or two day “perfect trip” by being extremely specific on WS parameters.

Would I prefer a two day+ GS? Sure. Way too junior, so it’s not going to happen.

Why not collect 10.5 for a fly out one night, deadhead back the next day (preferably deviating early)?

Again, as others have stated there are a multitude of reasons they could be WSing for. The most common reason is they are a "credit surfer" ie senior pilot drops all their trips, WSs low block trips ie 2 hr block(even lower if one leg is a DH) CHS out and back that pays 10:30 to get to the trigger plus GSs here and there. Many times as a 73NB I'd have 6-9 days of GS early then had to use the remainder of the month to get to the trigger. I'd "credit surf" low block trips to reach the trigger with minimal effort.

The PWA says that trip is my OBWS before it's your GS. Learn to live with that. My QOL comes first and if I can't fix the schedule with 15% of the system flying, I'm more than happy to widen the aperture to 100%.
