Just because jackets are no longer required doesn’t mean you can wear whatever you want on walk around. If you choose to not bring your jacket and it’s 20 degrees somewhere then plan on wearing your short sleeve shirt. I’ve had several FO’S over the years bring sweater (not even black) and light jackets to wear. No go. Don’t put me in that position to have to act like your dad and tell you what you can’t wear. It’s not that hard.
Were you a good hall monitor in elementary school?

When I was in the service and you didn’t wear your uniform as required your ass was toast! Why should it be any different here? Leaving uniform decisions up to individual pilots is a terrible decision because I’ve seen what pilots wear when they choose what they are going to wear. There’s a reason there are uniform standards. We’d look like a bunch of clowns in the circus. Now wear your uniform as specified in FOM and stop whining like the babies you all are acting like.

Still being in the service, there is a time where common sense applies. On a recent deployment, we couldn't get the proper uniform jacket for the AOR that provided the proper level of protection from the cold. So we wore the jacket that did protect us from the cold and just accepted that we looked odd for mismatched uniforms. Guess what, the Wing Commander didn't even mention it because it made sense. There are plenty of walkarounds where our jacket isn't appropriate for the temps, in those cases I'll wear my black jacket that keeps me warm. If a LCA loses their minds over it, I'll gladly have that conversation with them or kindly ask them to leave the cockpit. I'm all for policy and following the rules, but common sense does to come into play and applies in some situations.

For what? Enforcing our FOM required uniform policy? We all make 6 figures. Wear the uniform like required and there will be no issues. And packable light black jacket for walk around’s is a no go. That’s precisely what FO was wearing when LCA came to cockpit and chewed us both out about. The FO for not wearing an approved uniform and me for not enforcing the policy. If you tools have an issue take it up with your chief pilots and see how well that goes over. Now back to eating your fruit loops.

Careful. That first step is a doooooozy! Am I right? Or am I right, or am I right?

-walk by gate from ATL terminal. See FO from at best 50yards.
- Fill with Rage
- walk up to gate agent, explain that you are a check airmen not on the list, you need access to the jet bridge to berate a pilot for wearing non standard jacket. Overcome the dumbfounded look and ignore the eye roll.
- scan badge
- walk down jet bridge
- hopefully check for passengers, start yelling at whoever comes into sight first.
- explain who you are, previous military rank included
- pull out ipad, tape over camera.
- open aerodoc, login because we are Delta,
- go to bookmark, you know he’s got uniform standards bookmarked
- make both pilots read the reference
- walk away satisfied, excited to tell story at the LCA meeting how you were the hero of uniform standards.
Yeah not happening, easier to tell your friends you heard about this happening. Friend posts on APC
