Just because jackets are no longer required doesn’t mean you can wear whatever you want on walk around. If you choose to not bring your jacket and it’s 20 degrees somewhere then plan on wearing your short sleeve shirt. I’ve had several FO’S over the years bring sweater (not even black) and light jackets to wear. No go. Don’t put me in that position to have to act like your dad and tell you what you can’t wear. It’s not that hard.

And whatever someone wears is covered by a bright vest anyway.
And many pilots wear "out of uniform" gloves, hats and ear covers anyway.
I believe the phrase "duly noted" was invented for just such occasions.

For what? Enforcing our FOM required uniform policy? We all make 6 figures. Wear the uniform like required and there will be no issues. And packable light black jacket for walk around’s is a no go. That’s precisely what FO was wearing when LCA came to cockpit and chewed us both out about. The FO for not wearing an approved uniform and me for not enforcing the policy. If you tools have an issue take it up with your chief pilots and see how well that goes over. Now back to eating your fruit loops.

So does this mean the post was real? Wow. Unbelievable. Questionable judgment, especially when there is clearly room here in both the FOM and conflicting company memos. I’m wondering if this guy keeps his tie fully tight around his neck while in the cockpit? It says you must in the FOM. Really crazy someone would bring this up and call someone out on it and ignore common sense.

And Ill bet his pants fabric exactly matches his horse blanket, and they are hemmed with a slight break at the shoe, which I’m sure have no stitching anywhere one them. All of which are in the FOM. He’ll never admit it, but I guarantee he busts at least one of these things every single rotation. LCA would have to challenge 69%+ of the pilots “in violation” of the FOM every day. GMAFB.
No one is defending wearing a non-uniform jacket through the terminal/public spaces, for crying out loud. That’s clearly wrong. We are taking about pulling out a black jacket, over which goes a yellow vest, for 2 minutes of a 20degree walk around, which is nearly invisible to the public. A couple of times a year at most as needed.
Of all the things to worry about…. FFS
