These periods are designed to cover the morning departure window. That’s what I attempt to be properly rested for. If circumstances like a 0001 callout wake me and I can’t get back to sleep, there’s no way I’m safe to operate an 0700 departure and I can’t legally sign the release. Fatigue call puts me into rest, the trip gets covered by another short call pilot whose rest wasn’t interrupted at midnight, or it goes out as a green slip (likely late) to someone whose sleep was similarly uninterrupted.
If this happens as often as the circumstances suggest it should, the company will have to fix the problem - not us. I’ll happily take the SC assignment on the current timeline but allow the front to be immediately truncated, so my window of vulnerability becomes only 0500-0900. A 0500 call I can handle. But if the company really wants me to day sleep and swap my circadian rhythms for the totality of this silly 2359-0900 contact window (and potential to be landing an airplane all the way past noon the following day), it’s going to take 5:15 above guarantee for each assignment.

I haven't done any of these 23:59 SC periods but it seems to me I wouldn't be able to sleep when I'm on a ~2 hour leash anyway. So unless we are off the hook for further SC once there's an 0800 report on my schedule, I'm not going to be able to get any rest, nor should I be expected to, since I'm still on SC. The 2359 periods are an experiment that will only work if we collectively bend over backwards to get rest while not in rest.

Had I not opened MiCrew again after previously acknowledging the SC assignment, I would have presumably been getting a midnight call out for a 0600L report. I would imagine that this has got to be generating fatigue calls left and right. This instance did because cell service was intermittently down, and I wanted to check my schedule at midnight before going to bed.

I opened a pay dispute over SCs 7,8,and 9 last month and the fact they didn't assign them to me as bid by YS. The response was that they are not obligated to assign more than your maximum PWA #. Why was the pay enhancement for additional SC even negotiated then? In other words they are invoking a discretional stance for bidding and assignment when there is none. This is the equvilant of making white and green slips for REGs completely at the company's discretion. If that were the case there would be riots in Peachtree city. If we are going to get them to act correctly, it will take a grievance. They continue to erode PWA value by reinterpretation and we stand idle. SMH The result will most likely be a MOU deal or a lengthy arbitration that splits the baby and we will lose some negotiated bennefit/value. Be sure to keep this in mind when next you are considering going the extra mile. This stuff never ends.

Mine is in with ALPA but not yet reviewed. That said, how many don't bother submitting them and save the company money? This is just another example of the company not following the PWA. Dishonest and hypocritical and this relationship only goes one way.

As notenuf said if there was less than 18hrs from
contact to report that’s an F coded GS and you get the pay for the first duty period in addition to any X days. No payback day for the on call day however. If it was greater than 18 hrs notice then you would not receive pay for that day. F also counts as a GS for leveling purposes.
