Yes. You must use the “first in sequence” YS. An “if needed” YS will not award anything prior to 10 hours after the start of LC.

Absolutely yes. Done it several times over the years (when a much better trip reported early vs. the one I was absolutely going to get otherwise)

18 hours (or 10 hours) are protections, not prohibitions, that only you can waive.

I am a little bit confused by the estimated line count for October. They are estimating my NB category to go from ~29% reserves in September, to ~17% reserves in October. A very slight increase in block hours, but really not much. Why the big cut in reserves? Are they just planning to throw a lot more lineholders in the min credit window? Curious as to if there is any rhyme or reason, that is a lot less reserves than in August, so I guess it will be a lot harder to get the days off I want. Didn't expect that, since October should be slow.

Is there any mechanism to YS a Short Call on an X-day?

Let's say they posted SC open time for 1-day available group. Could that be YS on an X-day?

iI is possible to YS to be first to fly on X days. Ensure you understand all the implications of this, should you ever want to try it, because you will be “flying for free” in most cases. The only time I can think of where this makes much sense, Is if you are already “Full”, and want to make some more money. YS on a X day is above GS on the coverage ladder, if you think a GS won’t get to you. You will not get any PB days for this.

I am not aware of a mechanism to sit SC on a X Day,

Ok. A mechanism to sit SC on an X-day would be... interesting.

Add to the list of reasons to YS rotations on X-days is an attempt to get FULL before end-of-the month LC days..

My category has a similar situation and I too am trying to read those tea leaves. Maybe if the ALV was higher, then the current excess staffing would still remain because pilots bidding lines would absorb more of the rotations available in order to reach the higher ALB? But because of the annual averages in place, the system forcing a low ALV in the category and therefore less flying can be “shoved” onto pilots’ schedules via PBS?

A pretty good shot in the dark. Lower ALV does mean fewer trips going to lineholders in PBS (meaning more lineholders needed?) Add to that, ALV is spread equally across Equipment and Fleet, but not Base. So different bases may experience the ALV differently in terms of reserves required. Surely more to it than just that, but it's a good start.

I wasn’t awarded any additional short call days (senior folks were). Cut off was not the most appropriate phrasing.
