Both. My first issue was with a GS then a few days later it was with an IA. The response from the Scheduling Committee was specifically referencing the GS situation.
I just had an update from the scheduling committee this morning that they have negotiated some agreement with CS in how PB will be applied in these situations. Apparently there will be a Scheduling Alert published on the topic.

Under current contract, any assignments on day one between 10-18 hours of start of reserve require zero backup flights.
Question I have (tablet is not with me) is if I yellow slip a trip reporting at say 1600 on day 1, do I still have no backup required? Everything else in open time is a Turdburger, but not so much of a turdburger that I want to do get up at 4am to try for the 6am RJ.

Hey Fangs15, CBreezy & Bugman61,
I put in an ACE enquiry to the scheduling committee and they told me this:
Basically they will only drop the assigned reserve trip IF the trip has a PWA or FAA conflict. Neither of mine did so they shouldn't have dropped the RES assignment for me.
This really sucks going forward. This new PWA has given a pretty good efficiency gain to the company with them being able to assign RES assignments 2 days out meaning I can't GS 2 days prior to get a PB to reduce my exposure. Not to mention the ARCOS batch sizes and that's a good hit to QOL right there.

Thank you for standing your ground, and for posting the results here for all to learn. The only way uninformed/mistrained CSers will learn is if we hold them to the PWA. Sometimes that goes for us too…
CS is a hard job, especially for a non-pilot to learn how things work and understand the nuances. I have found you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar. Said another way, never raise your voice in an argument you k ow you are going to win.

PWA 23.S.2.a says "assigned a rotation"...
PWA 23.S.2.a.5 note 3 states: "A commuting pilot assigned a rotation under Section 23 S. 2. a. 5) will be considered to have complied with any requirement under a Company or PWA commuter policy to book a backup flight"
PWA 23.A.70.a (yellow slip) says "become first in sequence for assignment"
I would say the no back up applies if YS'ing on day 1

There was no timeline given for the Scheduling Alert. I'm not holding my breath but I'm hopeful.

May depend on the fleet/scheduler. Also, on my fleet, I notice that assignments often go out earlier on weekends than during the weekdays.
You can look at the "reserve availability" list on ICREW to see if they have already assigned them or not for your fleet though.

What really kinda compounds the confusion here is that the freakin implementation schedule for this new PWA spans 2+ years. I just got caught quoting the PWA the other day for 2 hours I thought I was due. That has t gone into effect yet.

I mean, the implementation schedule has been attached to the TA/PWA from the moment it was released to the pilot group. There are always things that don’t go into effect on DOS. It’s not terribly hard to figure out what things go into effect at what dates.
