Next time be sure to ask them how it’s any different than a lineholder calling in sick just before a trip.

Like others said, call in sick when you're sick. Don't worry about how far ahead of a trip it is - I have been on reserve for probably more than half my time here (and it's been more then a decade) and I've never had someone call me about the timing for I called in sick for a trip. Never. And I have used plenty of sick time.

I suspect anyone who is getting called it's the people with a pattern of doing it - ie, every time they get a trip on SC they call in sick, that type of behavior.

Depends on your base too.. I've had quite a few non sick time abusing friends get calls from a chief pilot in my base recently for calling out sick from a reserve trip.

Bingo! Name rhymes with "Jockey".....

At the time I got this call couple years back, my 12 month lookback was approximately 9 hours, with one occurrence. Clearly an egregious pattern of abuse!

But it’s a free gift when/if they do it, right? Because then that occurrence, for no matter how long it lasts, is now Verified per the PWA.

Yes indeed! Quick trip to a doc-in-box on the company’s dime and you push back the 120-hour verification threshold back however long you’re out. Gives the CPO FOMs something to do too.

Just make sure you clarify first thing in the conversation that the call is a GFB, and request the specific reasoning as required by the new PWA.

Then add a 5 day right after the trip you already banged out for. Maybe 2 for good measure. 😂

A word of warning, this is not how scheduling is interpreting the contract. I just had this situation happen today. Again I picked up a green slip to drop a horrible 5 day reserve assignment starting tomorrow (that was assigned yesterday). This time (unlike last week) it was only a 1 day green slip. They put the PB days in my bank rather than putting it on the RES day tomorrow and the horrible 5 day trip still remains on my schedule. When I called scheduling and quoted PWA Section 23.Q.6.c.Exception, they said it doesn't work like that because there was no conflict with the trip already on my schedule and they would not put a PB day on it because it's now not a RES day but an assigned reserve trip. I've ACED it.

I think this new contract gave the company some efficiencies with assigning trips 2 days out thus limiting our ability to avoid reserve trips with green slips and payback days.

BTW anybody have a reference to where I can find out how many PB days you are due? I think I remember somewhere that if a trip gets back after a certain time (I think it is 15:00) then you get 2 payback days but I can't find that reference. I'm also assuming to be awarded 2 payback days for a 1 day green slip your next day needs to be an X day not a RES day?

Cheers,

Airfix

That absolutely is not how it works and you need to call back until you find someone competent. Then call your CPO.

You get 9 hours free from duty following any GS on reserve. Then you get 24 hours off from that point for every interrupted x-day.

They may ONLY bank when there are no more on call days. An on call day is one that isn't an x day so it doesn't matter if there is an assignment, LC or SC..
